It is a bad day here Early this morning 12 people and an officer where shot and killed in a local nightclub Borderline. Another crazy gunman. Now the Santa Anna winds are pounding my county and a massive fire has erupted blotting out the sky and choking the air I breathe. I am picking up my family and coins and preparing to evacuate. The smoke is bad. The air is DRY and winds in excess of 28 miles per hour.

Are you in Cam too? Shouldn't be an issue if you're in the flats, except for the smoke.

Be careful out there! It seems like CA is getting more fires these days or maybe I just didn’t hear about them years ago. My daughter is in San Diego and says they are always north of her. Probably the only reason I pay more attention now.

So far it is just smoke but flames now less than a mile away, we have weathered worse fires and smoke before. The wind changed direction a bit and it is not so bad now.
Mudslides will follow, but I am not close enough to be affected by those. Whew!

Thank you everyone for the kind messages and support.

Looks like you're photo is on the road by the Marriott and the Shell station by Dawson Drive? Howdy, neighbor! I wanted to get a Starbucks by Lewis and Upland, but traffic is a clusterpuck.

    Howdy neighbor! :)
Yes good eye. The view from there is pretty good. The last few fires have been like front row seating from the Dawson 76 area. We should catch up sometime, maybe at conejo stamp and coin or something. I was going to go there tomorrow but the grade is probably melted.

I'll PM you when things settle down :)

Yes, 76, not Shell. The line of demarcation between what passes for the 'hood of Cam to Village at the Park. I'm farther north, up by Taco Bell :D

Hope and praying for you @Aspie_Rocco that you were able to get out safe and that you are now in a safe place. Praying that nothing happens to your house and possessions or any of your neighbors houses and possessions and that you all are able to get back to your homes real soon and everything gets back to normal as soon as possible for all of you.

Also praying for the first responders, firemen/woman and law enforcement that they are all safe and are able to get the fire put out as fast as possible without any injuries, casualties and structure losses.

The smoke has made what seems like a large U around most of the city. The wind is really blowing out there and hopefully does not reverse direction and smoke us out in a few hours

I am sad to hear of your many problems that are totally out of your control. Stay safe and try to get out with as much as you can.

Here in Florida our biggest issue is sink holes and harricanes. The sink holes show up now and then; the harricanes are worst in the early fall. Fires can be an issue, but not at the moment. It's been a very wet summer and fall.

The problem with the wind it can carry hot embers and therefore cause flare-ups in unexpected places.

    Be vigilant and stay safe!
