Why buy gold, today ?

When you can get away with stealing it ....
These two got away with :
One $50 Gold American Eagle (2017)
One Gold Buffalo in mint wrap
One Ounce Gold Kangaroo in capsule
One Perth Mint gold bar in assay.
6 Quarter Ounce Gold American Eagle's (raw)
3 1935 B Swiss Franc Gold (raw)
Guess the grade on these 6 ounces of gold , and their worth ?
No. I did not call the police , yet.
I wanted to show you guys, first.

Was your asking price to low??????
Did they break the showcase glass or what? Surely you didn't lay all of those out on the counter at the same time.

Or maybe you sold them at a loss just to move the inventory?

Best call the police pronto.
I would upgrade the security cameras; maybe people here could make a recommendation. In 2018, businesses need the good imaging cameras and they are cheap. Welcome to the victims club, I got robbed a few times myself and that is quite painful. Maybe there is legal remedy.
Robbed like with a gun, or the victim of fraud? Explain and you didn't call police because........? Peace Roy

Sucks. Now that you've posted here, call the police.

Sorry to hear that Joe.
I'm glad you can still post.

Robbed ... as in theft by deception, namvet.
The older guy wanted to get some silver and gold for his father's b/day. I showed him a few pieces. He showed me a wad of money. He wanted the stuff packed in a box, etc., While that went on, he did the "five finger discount" ( I suspect) because I saw the gold go in . When he didn't have enough cash (he had $5300) , he rolled his wad up, said he'd be back in ten minutes.
A minute after he'd gone, something struck me as odd, and I immediately re-opened the box. The silver (part of his initial purchase) was all that was in the box.
He and his cohort were long gone.
As to the police being notified ? I'm just now getting over the anger and frustration.
At $8000 ask, I thought it was fair. (but he was too eager at any price ) I should have known.
Where exactly are you located?

that, in a box trick, has been going around for a long time....
don't folks read this stuff here???? how can they keep getting away with this...
Did they look like the people in this thread?

Edited to add:
Hard to compare with your picture but look at the post dated 30 Oct 18 by logger7.
NOT FUN AT ALL

I can still SEE that .38 pointed at me.
I'm sorry this happened to you, but I'm confused as to why you reported the theft here instead of to the police when time is of the essence? Unless we are in the same town, the board can't do anything but commiserate. Mean time the thieves get further and further away. Sorry if I sound like a jackass, but it seems odd to me.
I am sorry to hear of your plight. It is very difficult when you’re in the state of shock and denial to try to figure things out. Time will help and you will make the right decision.
This has been discussed on here several times as mentioned - leave the stuff on the counter! This blog is a way for people to communicate what is going on, but it only works if you use it. Sorry this happened, but it could have been avoided by just saying, "Sorry, I've seen this movie already."
Nil.
I am just glad you lived to tell about it.
check other shops in area. They gotta sell it somewhere.

I'm sure the same or other crooks reading this post will be very happy about OP posting their MO and some if not all will be using it to perfection to rob other coins shops, etc.
I would consider it theft by shoplifting, rather than deception (but I am not a lawyer or cop)
it is still more than $1500, so a Class III felony in Nebraska
Sheesh, hope you're insured for this.
Call the cops.
Call the cops, for sure
What is the 5 finger discount?
and what is the box trick?
I am sure all of us are (hopefully) honest people and most of us have no idea what these terms mean.
Sorry to hear about this misfortune: Contact authorities ASAP. Since you have film, and it appears that at least one individual isn't wearing gloves; it is possible they left a print on the counter, etc., and this may be crucial for any mistakes on their part.
I'm sure they are hoping you don't report to authorities....do yourself, and us a favor- report it.
You came out of this with a beating heart. That is worth all the gold in the world. the next victim may not be so lucky. They'll get caught.
If you are in the business, you should be on the mailing list of these folks:

This particular scam is very popular lately and used by many different thieves all over the country.
OMG, how terrible. That's a huge loss !!!
more details please
Here is a post I made on the coin dealer network about two months ago to a dealer in Louisville, KY who got hit by the same crooks or their cousins:
Call this guy:

Doug@numismaticcrimes.org
.
He has some reports of a gang of con artists working the South. Did they flash a bunch of cash and say they wanted to buy some bullion, but say they were a little short and would be back in a while?
I'm very sorry to hear this but I'm also so glad you were not harmed.

As soon as I saw this post I immediately thought of your Louisville post. Pretty much the identical story and if memory serves me right the thugs look very very similar.
Five finger discount means Stolen, as in for free.
Far more honest coin dealers and collectors reading this forum than crooks. The honest folk will benefit far more than crooks by knowing their MO.
What logger7 said and the police should be first - not us.
Very sorry for your loss. I'm glad that you were not physically threatened or injured.

I am sorry to hear this. I hope they are caught.
Glad you're okay, awful situation so sorry you had to go through that experience. Stay strong! The crooks will keep at it until they end up in jail ...and hopefully very soon!
Back in 2000 I walked out of a Blockbuster Video store with a movie in my hand and there was a guy in my car stealing it!! Shook me up and took a while to get over it.
I am very sorry to hear this. Theft and robbery is such a personal affront and crime. It can make you really lose trust in people. Good luck in your recovery efforts. Not much consolation, but at least the amount stolen seems to be low enough to quickly recover financially. Also lesson in how to deal with people and processes to trade coins/bullion for cash.
First , I am so sorry this happened, it pisses me off to be perfectly frank.... So they switched boxes on you when you were not looking or did they pull the stuff out of the box while you were writing the receipt?
They stole 6 ounces. Cops were notified. Last thing the police told me....after leaving this evening, (crime lab was there getting evidence and taking a copy of the angles of view from the surveillance) was to notify others. So, I'm in Omaha down the road from the zoo... and as of today, I think it's time to close the doors.
I thank you few, who afforded me the opportunity to serve the numismatic community for a decade.
I am so so sorry this terrible thing happened ...... My thoughts are with you and best of luck on the recovery.
Glad you are safe and unhurt

I wonder how much $$ the above cu members stole from us?
Really sorry to hear this. Somehow, some way I hope the punks are caught and you get at least some of the gold back.
You gave it a good run @TwoSides2aCoin

I will say life as a welder, mechanic, soldier, roofer, entertainer, and single parent was much more fun, and easier than this business with the "walk-ins" I've dealt with.
It's a good hobby, though And I took precautions. At the end of the day these guys were good at being bad.
And why I didn't call the police immediately ? My temper. The cops might have shot me.
You do what you feel is right for you and that's all that matter.
I hope your insurance will cover part of it and the most important part is your safety.

Sorry to hear about this Joe.
