  Personally I want nothing to do with the modern Chinese coins so long as their government ignores the importation of counterfeit U.S. coins into this country. Some of the Chinese Panda coins have nice designs, but I want nothing to do with their products so as they have so little regard for U.S. collectors.

  Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

  Their Panda bullion coins used to be 1 oz but they changed them to 30 g which is less than 1 oz. Another reason to not buy them.

  And who is to say the counterfeiters aren't also counterfeiting their own coins?

  I am highly skeptical of anything that comes from China.

  I do get to a point at times I say screw it, why bother reporting these fakes. Then I get on a tear and start combing Ebay for fakes. Must be in the several thousands by now, been doing it off in on for 10 years. What burn my a$$ is I have to work hard to earn the income to buy Morgans and don't appreciate others knowingly destroying the hobby by selling counterfeits.

  Pandas were 1 Troy ounce and while the Chinese govt. may encourage counterfieting of our coins, they may discourage counterfeiting of their own coins.

  I avoid products made in China... not just coins...and as far as coins, I do not buy any. I have old Chinese coins... but I know those are authentic....had them for many, many years. Cheers, RickO

  Apparently, they also counterfeit 'mutilated' US coins.

  Federal prosecutors say several U.S.-based metal recyclers conspired in an elaborate scheme to bilk the U.S. Mint out of more than $5.4 million. The firms were allegedly attempting to be paid for large mutilated quantities of what are allegedly counterfeit U.S. coins imported from China.
