Counterfeit Coins

I read all the time about counterfeit coins being a huge problem as well as counterfeit TPG slabs. A huge amount of the counterfeits come from China and my understanding is the Chinese gov't turns a blind eye towards the problem. I also know that in this country there is a healthy appetite to collect Modern Chinese coins. Why would anyone support authentic coins being made in China and that market when they disregard our laws and actively undermine US rare coins?

Their Panda bullion coins used to be 1 oz but they changed them to 30 g which is less than 1 oz. Another reason to not buy them.

And who is to say the counterfeiters aren't also counterfeiting their own coins? :o

I am highly skeptical of anything that comes from China.

I presume they used to be 1 Troy ounce...

Pandas were 1 Troy ounce and while the Chinese govt. may encourage counterfieting of our coins, they may discourage counterfeiting of their own coins.

    That raises an interesting question.

Can one buy counterfeit Chinese Pandas from China?

    Why not?

I avoid products made in China... not just coins...and as far as coins, I do not buy any. I have old Chinese coins... but I know those are authentic....had them for many, many years. Cheers, RickO

Apparently, they also counterfeit 'mutilated' US coins. :astonished:

    From COIN WORLD:
Federal prosecutors say several U.S.-based metal recyclers conspired in an elaborate scheme to bilk the U.S. Mint out of more than $5.4 million. The firms were allegedly attempting to be paid for large mutilated quantities of what are allegedly counterfeit U.S. coins imported from China.

The full story is interesting [although a few years old] and can be read here https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/2015/03/feds-investigate-counterfeit-mutilated-u-s--coins-from-china.all.html

Successful transactions with : MICHAELDIXON, Manorcourtman, Bochiman, bolivarshagnasty, AUandAG, onlyroosies, chumley, Weiss, jdimmick, BAJJERFAN, gene1978, TJM965, Smittys, GRANDAM, JTHawaii, mainejoe, softparade, derryb, Ricko

The US government does little to nothing either. The FTC is responsible for enforcing the CCPA the update of the HPA.
Ebay allows sellers of counterfeits here in the US to go unpunished after many many violations. Ebay is in violation of the CCPA by allowing them to continue, yet nothing is done to stop any of this. The exception being a few dedicated collectors that voluntarily spend countless hours doing what ebay should be paying people for,
