Another day at the office and this Morgan is up for grading, is it questionable or acceptable toning?

I hit the wrong button. I have NO issue with the toning.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
If I am the grader then yes, I have issues with the colors as they are showing up on my monitor.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
if i was the grader that coin would get a questionable color label
Well, I don't like the toning...... the reverse is getting a touch close to terminal on the rims. As for grading it, if it's a borderline case it's pretty safe to hit the QT button. The white hat on Pappa Smurf looks a little odd. Could be legit. I'm no grader, but in my book it's questionable.
Cracked out of a NGC holder believe it was a 3, dull n lifeless. I then put it into a paper lunch bag years ago and this is the result. It hasn't changed much in the last 6 months. I'm thinkin 3 years ago about this time of year. All I did to the image was a smidge of contrast and a dash of darkening.
The reverse I do not have a problem with, but the obverse center does not look natural.

Yes, I'd have serious reservations about the toning... especially on the obverse.

I like it.
I am more interested in the details and making sure it's not from Jyna! Peace Roy

so the coin was basically untoned when cracked?
Yes is was dull n lifeless, no toning, no luster really, just blah. This Morgan was face down against the bag the whole time.
I had a dipped out trade dollar that I put in a desk inside some brown paper. It also had deep blue/purple toning and I was amazed at how quickly it toned. The white area on the cap is surprising; I wonder what shielded it from the sulfur fumes?
No issue. I would say neutral toning.
Color void at cap makes me think something was once on the surface, bit no longer is
I had one very similar that failed to grade so I'd say no. I do not know what the problem was. Perhaps color progressions were wrong?
I think someone fooled with it.

The splotchy blue/purple areas look off to me.
Yes, I have an issue with it. First inclination of thought is it is some natural and some accelerated/artificial.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Some natural 'maybe' - some not so.....
It looks a little artificial to me.

I have no issues with the grade. The tarnish will dip right off. AS to eye appeal ? The uglier the better. I'm guessing, of course. It is what it is. Storage might be the issue, if I'm the grader. Environmental damage a problem ? I think more likely than not.
Pretty coin. Pretty ugly. There are two sides. The reverse I don't mind.
Our grader is no longer here It does not look natural to me IMHO
I think it's ok.
Doesn't look like anything someone would bother to create. Blue around reverse rims is consistent with blue on obverse. If that's a scrape below the ear, it's not worth worrying about.
Getting close to being 50/50. I swear the only thing I did was put it into a brown sandwich bag for 3 years, straight out of a slab.
Negative eye appeal.
Guys, the poster has already admitted that he messed with it. It's AT.

He didn't mess with it, he stored it in a bag. It toned. Looks market acceptable whatever way you want to look at it.
Looks all good. Both natural and market acceptable. A bit unique but there are more "unique" toners out there. My money is on straight grade. If it gets details, the grader that got it is biased against color in general.
He stored it in a paper lunch bag with the intent of causing it to tone. That is artificial toning in my book, as it is man-made and created purposefully. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean TPGs won't certify it and people won't pay extra for it (something I don't understand), but I personally would never go near it. I love toned coins and most of my own coins are toned, but how can people buy coins that they know have been purposefully toned, especially since this is usually done with the intent of making money off of it? It only fosters more of the same behavior, and more people getting absurd amounts of profit off of paper bags and sulfur pens.

It is probably both questionable and acceptable.
No matter what you call it, it's not going to get toner "moon money" in any auction
Rev looks particularly good. I don't know about the obv, tho. I guess overall I could pass it. It's NOT AT IMO.
Any toning must be made. If no man was here, how would you know if it was toned ?
I believe it would get a 'Questionable color' designation.... though they are becoming more and more liberal with tarnish....soon, I think, all tarnish will grade...JMO.... Cheers, RickO
i like the reverse on it and do have issues with the obverse as well. jmo
The coin is tarnished.

I had no idea of the outcome just an experiment for my own purposes.
just a thank you to the poster for allowing us to publically flog his personal experiment with a Morgan and a bag
Yes, they are are not laying right on the surface of the coin especially around the edges..
Toning/tarnish is immaterial to the "grade" of a coin. It will likely influence the appear of the coin to a buyer, but that is not part of a grade.
The squared white area on the obverse makes the coin very questionable.
