Safe deposit box question.

Will a bank let you take the tin inner box out of the bank to fill it ....NEATLY.... and then bring back a full box and lock it up?

Sure would be handy. :)

It's a good idea; I can even clean it better but I never tried. :/

Shouldn't this question go to your bank? Even if mine does, it doesn't mean yours does. And I don't know that a box at my bank will work for you if it's 1500 miles away.

I'd be curious about the answer. But, I suspect they will think you are nuts and will say no. (I for one would want to scrub and decontaminate a new SDB).

Ask the bank. Be willing to leave a deposit on the box. Half the people who would do that would never return the liner.

I'm thinking not. Give your bank a call and find out.

Doesn't your bank have one of those "private" rooms to handle your SDB? They will let you stay in there as long as it takes...

My SDBs at two banks are unlined.

What do you mean by "unlined?" When you remove your inner box is the remaining area still fully enclosed by
a metal housing? Otherwise, you could open the adjacent boxes with an old fashioned can opener.

My father used to do it with his bank, but that was 50 years ago. The metal box was painted black, with an American Eagle on it.

Hey, look at that dude struggling to walk down the street with his safe deposit box liner! It looks heavy. Let’s go see what he has in it...

I have had SDB's at three different branches of two different banks. The "official" answer has always been no at all of them. I have done it at the current branch a few times, but the tellers and management have turned over countless times since the cool crew was there. Today, I wouldn't even bother asking.

Read the safebox agreement you signed originally. If you do not have the copy they gave you, ask for another. Ours clearly states that the inner box is property of the institution and may not be removed from the premises. Good luck!

Not a problem for me... I keep my coins within my control. ;) As some character on TV used to say "Pity the fool who messes with my coins.".... :D:D Cheers, RickO

My thoughts exactly. Pretty big security red flag. Carrying a 24" box into or out of the bank isn't exactly inconspicuous.
