And still in circulation! Found this when I was preparing a $50 bag for the Feds. And before anyone asks.....NO I DID NOT CHECK FOR ANY DOUBLING OR VARIETIES(nor will I!) !!!

Yes, it's hard to believe I'm that old. When I was high school I used to have little celebration each New Years Eve when one of the coins in my collection reached the century mark. Back in 1965, an 1865 Nickel Three Cent Piece seemed like an "old coin." Now a 1917 cent doesn't strike me as that old.
Of course when you when you can hold an English Penny of Harold II from 1066 or a denarus of Nero from 35AD, it makes all of the U.S. coins seem young.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?4 -
I'm sure it was just a typo, but Nero wasn't born until AD 37.
I'm still waiting to find one of his coins in circulation.

Oopps! You are right. Make that circa 65 AD or something like that.

It is always interesting to find an old cent still in circulation....about a year or so ago, I found a 1919 cent in change... still have it someplace. Cheers, RickO

Nice find. The earliest cent I ever found in change was a 1922 Lincoln. I did find an 1882 Indian in the next door neighbor's front yard when I was in my early teens.
