I agree.
Great looking coin. I like that frosty luster.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Wow, it sure looks much better than a 63 !!!
Are you going to send it to CAC? You might get the coveted Gold Sticker.

It must have some light hairlines that cannot be seen in the picture. Looks better than 63 from that picture.

Nice 63. Plus on a good day but I wouldn't count on it. Those marks on the lower half of the obverse is why I make the call.
Nice coin, and the non-upgrade coin population with original surfaces and very likely cac qualifications is strong. I remember how sharp dealers like Mike Robb made a market in those, especially Morgan dollars and worked with Allen Rowe for a while at the shows.
Looks good!
Sure it has some LIGHT hairlines. So do most 64s.
I have changed my coin approach since the advent of CAC.
I admire but pass on all non beaners EXCEPT GOLD!
GOLD is my new concentration as all dealers ALWAYS COMPETE for gold. Any gold.
I've yet to see gold coins be illiquid.
I've also lost almost all my appetite for "pricey" coins.
I like it, but I see enough hits and lighter marks on it to call it an MS63.

Like I do.
And....it was cheap.
But did it sticker?

I don't know this series, but that does not look like a 63 to my eye's. I'd be more inclined to call it a nice 64.
It's all meaningless without a sticker...
:'(
No, Mike was at a major shows years ago, I don't know what happened to him.
As are we all. :'(
That is a nice MS-63, but there are enough small marks on the nose and in the fields to keep it at that grade. Still, if I were looking for that date, that would be a wonderful coin to represent it.
Nice gold coin, but a 63 is a fair grade....marks on the obverse and reverse justify the grade. Cheers, RickO
Yep. That's all it is. All it pretends to be. The proper grade. BUT a...real... proper grade.

THIS one is a 64.
Agree with your analysis @topstuf. MS63 tends to have "chatter" - a bunch of small ticks here and there - whereas a MS64 will be primarily clean in the fields and portrait. Your MS63 doesn't have the chatter, but has a few larger hits concentrated in a few places. Not clean enough for MS64, but "looks" cleaner than a typical MS63 that has chatter.
Here are three comparative examples, MS63, MS63+, MS64... all CAC. The 63+ has less chatter than the 63, but a big semi-hidden hit in the top reverse field... so a similar coin to yours... a big hit offsets less chatter, giving a 63 grade but better eye appeal than a typical 63.
Mine is a 63. I wonder how it compares...
