Update:

This GTG is from many months ago - a random pickup from my local B&M. I got my first one of these today for this coin.. Happy dance:

I don't often look at Morgans, but something about this one caught my attention. I'll post the grade tomorrow morning.

64, weakness around ear may be strike as it is an O. Reverse keeps it from 65. Almost PL. To my eyes, but they aren't as good as they were.

    I like it as a 64 also.

too much chatter in the left obverse field and by her nose. MS63+ (the plus for color).

    I thought MS64 as a first impression.

I've seen MS 65 coins with more marks than this one has.

MS-64. You know 1898-O once listed for over $400 in a very early 1960s Red Book. It along with some other former better dates, like 1903-O, cropped in the Treasury hoards at that time.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Circulated specimens were (and still are) reasonably scarce, listed at over $75 in EF in the early 1960s. Today they sell at around common date prices because of the quantity of uncirculated coins available.

I guess I will be one who goes out on a limb here. I like it as a 66. The cheek actually looks rather clean and free of marks. What appears to be chatter in the field in front of Liberty's nose, lips and chin is spots of interrupted toning. No actual chatter in the surface of the metal.

I think it has really nice luster and the images were shot a bit on the dark side to bring out the contrast of the colors. The reverse also appears to be an illusion of chatter that really does not exist. Of course this is just my opinion and I could be way off.

There isn't a huge difference in book value from MS63 to MS65, but I think this coin gets a little toning premium. In-hand luster is very nice. I see the obverse as a 65/65+ and the reverse as a 64+ or perhaps 65. Certainly I've seen plenty worse in 65 holders. Other than one tiny tick on the nose and very light stuff on the cheek (overemphasized in the slab photo), the obverse is clean. What others were seeing as chatter is just toning. There are a some marks around the motto on the reverse which are grade-limiting. Strike is decent for an "O" dollar coin.

"My" overall grade is 64+ with an outside shot at 65, carried by the color.

    Thanks for the guesses everyone.

@jtlee321 made some comments about the photo technique that were spot-on.

@Paradisefound, you crack me up. I guess you're allowed to name my coins, but I have no desire to read the book or see the movies. ;)

    Wow a 63? I was way off... I knew it started with a 6 though. :p

I would have snatched that one up in an instant!! A gold colored oval would look real nice just below the S$1 on the label. :)

That vintage PCGS Holder dates back to a very Conservative Grading standard period.

    Nice Pickup Bryce! :)

I think it's prettier today then it was in September. It now has the Gold CAC I thought it deserved. :)
