Palladium Gradium?

OnastoneOnastone Posts: 3,938 ✭✭✭✭✭

My Palladium is on it's way, shipping has it arriving in two days...I see a lot of grading going on. Better to keep raw or grade? I'm on the fence. I've never submitted a coin to PCGS for grading, should this one be the first? And if I do, should it be mailed in the unopened mint box? There's always the chance that the grade could come back a mere 69....but a shot at a 70 is exciting. On the other hand, raw coins are nice too, and no chance of getting lost in the mail-which is always a possibility. Palladium Gradium?

That is a personal choice.... If you plan on selling, a gamble may be worth it...If for your personal pleasure, keep it as is. Cheers, RickO

To further the excitement don't you may want to see how it grades? A 'golden' membership will give you 4 free submissions and you may redeem them separately thru the membership year.
It is very pretty in capsule though .... to see in your hand; mine going out tomorrow :)

Mailing it in the unopened box is usually only necessary to get the First Strike label after the First Strike deadline has passed for submissions.

If you are scouring the surface with your eyeballs, what would you look for in a potential 70?

  • OnastoneOnastone Posts: 3,938 ✭✭✭✭✭

Oh geesh, Thanks for that, I didn't know someone already posted this question. Of course they did. I like my title better! :):)

10 posts in and no one has made a harry potter joke of the title? I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or encouraged by that

Looks like the first batch of the Big Boys Corporation coins got graded and they did good. 182 coins graded only 7 rejects @ 69 the rest are 70's. 175 graded 70's thats a nice percentage.

Hopefully your coins your submitting will do as well. We shall see. A picture is worth a thousand words.

That's a high percentage for 70s; if the $3000 pricing remains in place that is a huge payday over the what they have been selling for on ebay, $2000 or a little more.

I don't send in modern I keep them in OMP. I buy graded if I want a holder.

Oh stop please , with the $3000 :D:D:D:D number my hip waders aren't tall enough to wade through the BS surrounding this thing.

Palladium is going back to $300 an ounce and these are going to swirl right down the drain after it.

Just curious who the company was that was able to get so many? What happened to the one coin per household limit? And how did these get graded so quickly?

Purchase at around $1400 each, sell on average for $3K. Maybe the US mint should be doing submissions and selling graded coins or is that against their religion?

Logger7 good question on who gets 50 or 100 of these All at once. Probably a Senator who has access to the Mint maybe his wife or brother.

Or maybe it is Nancy Pelosi and her family, after all she is well liked in San Francisco and the Mint could give her a special deal..

    or not... LOL

This has been explained before in many posts. All it takes is to live close to PCGS in Newport Beach, or mail overnight mail. Pay people $100-300 or so to get their individual sets until you have a good quantity to qualify for low cost bulk submissions, then get them all to PCGS right away and pay extra for fast grading.

Then don't slab any 69's that are graded (which then are not counted in the pop reports) and sure enough you get a lot of 70's to sell quick.

Hundreds of 69's have been visually graded, so no way to know your "odds" of a 70 unless you look at them carefully yourself. It is all totally legal and it makes sense. No reason to be suspicious of anything.

I've seen this advertised: 2018-W $25 1oz PALLADIUM EAGLE NGC PF70FR Mercanti signed $4,495/ PF69 $3,495.00 Seems a little hefty to me. The Mercanti signed are limited to 1000 Eagles. Still it's a hefty price tag.

Agree. IMO those NGC's will be selling for a 40-50% discount from those prices in just a few months, and I would not buy them even then.

I count 14 different coin numbers for label variations at PCGS for these now.

Seems like every method is used to get a low pop "variety" to get the price up even higher than a basic Flag label FS. The amazing thing to me, is that it usually works.

  • OnastoneOnastone Posts: 3,938 ✭✭✭✭✭

Wouldn't the values remain high as there are only 15,000? That really doesn't seem like many at all.

  • OnastoneOnastone Posts: 3,938 ✭✭✭✭✭

Label variations. I've gotta have one of each label, they're so unique!!!!!

Depends on the real numbers who want them vs how many can actually afford to pay $2,000-$3,000 to let something like this sit in a safe deposit box indefinately. I think most people would rather buy something else for that kind of money, and the novelty will wear off some.

A lot of MS/PR70 platinum prices have collapsed over time as well, and some have much lower mintages and pops.

Due to the success of this with a high Mint mark-up, I predict there will be a reverse proof or burnished version of the Palladium coins proposed for 2019 or 2020.

I am guessing 25,000 mintage for a reverse proof Palladium would still sell-out fast with one HHL and some will probably bid the first ones to $5,000 a coin for PR70 presales at the start. As beautiful as these are, I think an RP with Mercury head frosty and another RP version with the field frosty would be well received, if Mint quality stays high like these were.

But please keep minting them at West Point, and don't allow the San Francisco Mint to even think about them.

Beautiful coin. Really like the reverse.

    @Onastone,

Back to your OP. I received my coin a few hours ago and it looked good enough to me, so I am sending it in to be graded. Your pictures looked pretty good as well, so it might be worth grading to try for a 70 also.

May the odds be ever in your favor.
