Exciting NEWP! I finally got my Type 2 Gold Dollar! GTG

Finally found her!
This isn’t the best picture, I’ll try to add one showing the luster better...
I love the color and especially the strike!

Dern CLEAN ! THAT is nice!
Aww....I love every aspect of your NEWP
Congrats
Don't you just love those slanted 55 ?
Nice pickup. I like it a lot. I'll guess somewhere between MS58 and MS62. I reserve the right to change my mind if you change the pictures.

Nice. Congrats.
Nice find!!
MUCH better pics here:

I can't remember seeing a 8 that well struck up and the lack of distracting clash marks makes this piece particularly attractive. Ill stick with my MS58 - MS62 range for a grade.

She's a beauty! I like her at AU58.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Probably average unc., huge price spike from AU to Unc. on those.
Besides it being gold,I’m into flying eagle cents, so the reverse agricultural wreath of this one is of interest to me for that.
Nice job adding it to the collection! You have been getting nice ones lately. That’s gotta feel good
I'm at 58. Will probably get a 62. Nice T2. Love pre Civil War gold.

My guess is that it is in an MS-63 holder. The 1855 gold dollars seem to come better struck the 1854 Type IIs from my experience. I have a PCGS graded MS-63, 1855 dollar which I like better than the 1854 Type II I have in an MS-64 holder.
Exactly my thought! I noticed the 8 is weak, but fully struck and rather sharp, just shallower than the other digits and no clash marks whatsoever! Given that and the sharp detail I believe it to be an earlier die state.

Bill, I'd love to see both of those!

1855, Virtually all of the lines you see on this coin are clash marks.
@BillJones Those are superb!

Thank you! Your piece has a really nice strike regardless of what NGC graded it.
I also have this one, which I purchased many years ago when prices were a lot higher. Rather that taking a bit hit on it, I have just let it sit. It's a PCGS AU-55.
This 1855-O is just an AU, but the strike was really sharp.
At least AU58. Very nice and better than most.

Thanks everybody! @BillJones Those are great, someday I'd like to get an O mint and perhaps Charlotte and Dahlonega, too.

If you want the Charlotte coin, get used to ugly. Those are by far the worst made Type II Gold Dollars and probably the worst made of all the gold dollars. The 1855-D has a low mintage and is legitimately scarce. There are some well struck examples of that coin, however.
Nice pickup on the type II dollar. When I had my gold pieces about 25-30 years ago, that was one I never had.
I hope to have one as nice one day.
Congrats on getting yours. Donato

These are so very difficult to find nice. I like this one a lot. Grade? Doesn’t matter to me - I just like it.
Looks like a 58 to me.
I like it.
If it is an AU-58, it's a superior AU-58.
Thanks everybody! I’ll reveal the grade tonight or tomorrow morning...

Only need the three dollar now!
I'll reveal in the morning to give a few more members a chance to guess. Thanks everybody so far for the kind words, I am very happy with this addition!
Just need the big sister $3!

Looking at the coin on my PC monitor, I agree and it looks more 62ish.
That's very nice for a Type 2, great choice.
Very nice gold coin... I would guess 62..... I like these tiny gold coins... Cheers, RickO
Well apparently it’s solid for the grade going on the opinions here.

Thanks everybody for the comments!

Very solid for a 58. Looks 6 or 7 points nicer than my NGC 55

Great coin! That thing is hammered. It reminds me of the 49-O. That's another tough one to find with a FULL strike, Congrats on the excellent newp!
Great coin and excellent for the grade. Congrats on a very nice example of a scarce and desirable coin.
