Club Meetings

Most everyone here likes to read the different show reports
that are posted. It would be fun to read some reports from
the local coin club meetings. Tell us about any presentations,
giveaways and neat coins shared. There aren't any clubs near
me to participate in. Just a thought.

Great idea!! So I recently moved from the north to the south and had to find anew club. Been here about a year and still consider myself new to the club, not coins.
The club turnout is fantastic! 50, 60 , 70 guys and gals and kids!! And no, that's not their ages!! Meetings are monthly and every month has a guest speaker. Last months was a YN who gave a presentation on Chinese cash coins. Very well prepared and executed by him. Next was show and tell. Wow!! Talk about participation. Working from memory , at least a dozen items made their way around the room. New mint products , pilot wings from the dept of treasury, a 56 flying eagle , and a nice copper nickel proof cent pattern. And many others. In my pocket , though not passed around , though shown to several members I knew was a bearded goddess half just back from our host.
As I always end up sitting in a different spot, just bc, I was sitting next to a lady who like me ha dc been a member about a year of so and had inherited a few coins. And she became interested. She has her redhook, as a free copy is a benefit of membership, so we talked about many things and I shared the 2 most useful things about a Reebok to me where proof montages, and of course great pics of many common redhook varieties.
Of course there was an auction, members can put in up to 5 items in , however , during viewing yout items must get a check mark indicating interest from a bidder. Great idea. Back home at one of the clubs , often there were one or two guys that went home with a balance of their items,as clearly they were not in touch with reality, aka the market!!
It's always surpring what sells at what price. Often the lower end items say less than 10 bucks go for a little more than they should yet a 50 item opening at a reserve of 40 will fail to sell.
They also take an intermission for folks to mingle and yn's have a quick program and get to select some goodies from the treasure box.
The only other thing that would make this complete would be some food! My old club served pizza and wings!!! You think guys showed up for that?
Anyways great job with the club jerry!!
Next month I'll post something a little fresher. This was from memory a couple of weeks ago!!
And oh yeah give aways. Raffled off several silver dollars and....
A gold coin!!
Which club is this, and/or where? We have the same type of turnout for our club in Salt Lake, though the presentations are generally not from YNs. We do have refreshments though, along with a raffle, which is the draw for some people.
Great report @DontTellTheWife . Sounds like a
well spent evening! Thanks. Anyone else?
The Long Beach Coin Club located in beautiful & sunny Southern California. Founded in 1950 that originally started the Long Beach Coin Show. We now have our own club booth set up at the show 3 times a year. Anyone can attend the meetings for free, and membership for YN's 15 years and younger are always FREE. Yearly club membership is also cheap at $12 bucks. Every month the club does a show n tell, early bird, and attendance raffle, regular raffle, and gold raffle. David Schwagger the author and writer of the book "Sample Slabs" is our current club Secretary, and our President Howard Felthman was President of the CSNA (California State Numismatic Association). The club also has an online monthly newsletter. Turnout averages 35 to 50 members per month. Refreshments includes pizza, desserts, drinks, and a yearly banquet...
Thanks @robkool . Your club has some
experienced leaders. Anyone else?
@DontTellTheWife.... That sounds like a great club meeting.... We have no coin clubs in this area... as well as no coin shops or shows. I live in a coin desert...
Cheers, RickO
Give aways - A Silver Eagle plus Proof sets at every meeting.
There is a raffle with silver dollars and other coins.
Free book to every member at the end of the year, of their choosing, with a $20 guideline.
**With our club you get more back than the cost of your dues. HINT we could use more members at the meetings. **
