1 to 2 points off what I was a hoping :) especially the 67's

    They certainly look like good grades - obviously you were expecting better. Well, ownership does add a point ;) .... In the words of Bobby Ferrin - "Don't worry, be happy...." Cheers, RickO

    I take it that this concerns regestry board standings ...

    A couple of points.

    1. I think that it's better to buy the coin in the holder you want rather trying to do with the grading route. This advice might be more relevant for the material I collect, which is generally well over 100 years and is usually not available in such lofty grades. For this modern material it’s probably cheaper to “make it yourself,” but it can also be much more frustrating.
    2. I think it’s wise not to let the registry take command of your collecting habits. There are many other enjoyable aspects to this hobby than just chasing grades and registry standings. I learned that a number of years ago. Unless you have “unlimited funds” there is only going to be a bigger horse in the barn for the most popular sets.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    68 is a tough barrier to break through

    Not yet anyway, I just like the idea of finding the treasure for almost nothing and then o'course it has to be confirmed. So I will most likely hoard it once I do. I think if I had enough money to buy the best coins I would probably be fishing instead and buying coins :)

    And they are certainly better than my first run, which was 60's lincolns grading ms64s and ms65s. Apparently the business strikes are harder to find. And yes, I am happy and now hungry for more.

    Playing the condition rarity game does not appeal to me. I would rather have a less common coin in a lower grade than a common coin in a lofty grade. To each his own though.

    I wouldn't mind owning a few of those early 1800's coins myself. I'm sure that bug will get me as well. I'm just going through the motions and right now I'm scratching the surface, get it :)

    I guess you could look at it that way, but I was expecting 69dcam on the quarter and cameo on the sms penny. At least now I will have some specimens for comparison.

    Without clear, public standards - and there aren't any for "cameo" - it's not possible for collectors to assess the potential 'grade' of their coins. This simply wastes collector time and money.

    I would think the people at PCGS probably have a clear understanding of the parameters for Cameo. And until I can think like that fish I will keep swinging.

    Assess the grade maybe not, but the potential should be just the potential right.

    Coins finally made it in and here are the pics. So, I posted two pics of the 67 sms 1c and I think I learned something about the Cameo designation. With shade it looks like a Cameo but in full light it obviously is not. What do you think?

    Yea, I'm actually pretty happy with the results and the collection is under way :)
