Had to say goodbye to my little friends......

Well, didn't necessarily have to, but decided it was time.
After contemplating for about a year, I boxed up the buffalo nickel set along with my toned type coins and off they went....
It was a combination of things that prompted me to make the decision. Like many have mentioned in other posts, it is the hunt for additions/upgrades that make putting together your set a little more exciting. I think I only managed to find 2 coins over the last 2 years that I felt were worthy of replacing an existing coin. I think this is partly because as time went on my standards became stricter as to what it took to bump an existing coin out. Not to mention that my key focus was finding coins with exceptional strikes. As many other buffalo nickel collectors know, this can be a real challenge. I certainly enjoyed the last 10 years building the set. Learned a lot about the series, enjoyed the many dealer interactions and always enjoyed sharing photos of newps with the forum.
It was a little harder to part with the type coins. I know I'll never be able to replace them. I was quite fortunate to acquire them to begin with. Many here will probably remember when a bought the album about 12 years ago. Sold a few off as years went along, but kept the ones that I thought I would never part with. My goal was to build a Star set of high grade one-of-a kind toned monsters. Same as with the buffalo's, just couldn't find any that I liked enough to buy. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but it seems that the really nice "Star" coins are getting hard to acquire. While at FUN this year, Todd took some great images of the coins for me, so I'll always have them to look at.
In the end, I just decided it was time for a reset. I'll find another area of focus and start again. Not sure what it will be, but once I get going, no doubt I'll be posting newps again.
Many here have inquired about a number of the coins over the years. For those interested, I'll post a link to the auction on the Buy/Sell forum. Happy collecting!

Those all have superb strikes and details.... Though I am not a tarnish fan, they sure are high grade coins... Cheers, RickO

The 55O Half, the lowest graded coin, is one of my favorites due to the strong strike.
Not that the others aren't stunning, too.
Great coins!
WOW!
These have been on my watch list! Hope the bank is in a good mood when the hammer falls! Amazing coins!
Yeah to build a totally matched set from scratch at times you not only need the patience of a giant tortoise but also the lifespan.
I think your timing is perfect for selling, you got to enjoy the coins you love and go out on top, you will thank yourself of your decision in a few years. Very nice coins indeed!
Some of the best I've seen.
These are special. Good on you for giving us a chance at them.

I know the feeling of taking a set as far as you can. I recently found myself there with my 20c die variety set. I sold all the ones that will get the biggest bucks and are replaceable, but stuck a few of the rares under the pillow in case I decide to try this set again in the future.
Every coin posted is exceptional. Think again before parting with them.
All of them are gorgeous, and you've got great images.
Good luck with the sale!

Congratulations on the reset! For over 40 years I have been building, rebuilding, and tearing apart my collection
The one constant? My sincere love for numismatics. The passion never goes away. Time for your next mountain to climb. I hope that you reap a tremendous windfall from your sale and dive right back in.
I would like to thank everyone for all of the wonderful comments. I don't think the hobby would be as rewarding if it weren't for being able to share your collection with other fellow collectors and get their feedback.
Anyone attending the ANA next week and wanting to see the coins in hand, Great Collections will have them on display.

What gorgeous stuff! I LOVE that '13 Var 1 Buff! And the '26 SL 25c too! I have the same goals as you-colorful Buffs with good strikes and nice color type stuff as well, and I only assembled a date set of Buffs which was very difficult.
Good luck!!
Thanks koynekwest. The SLQ has always been my favorite coin. Probably should have kept that one. If you haven't already, check out the buffalo's in my Buy/Sell post.
Also, did you ever use the image of my 24-s in your book? Still haven't seen another with a better strike.

I'll check. Is this it? This one is just a whisper away from a complete, full strike.
Oh, and I WILL check 'em out.
Yep. That be the one. Those are even my pics. Wish I would have left it in the OGH. Always thought the coin was undergraded.

Beautiful coins and great imaging! I am kicking around the notion to part with my collection as well, which is no where near as nice as yours! At least I will have the images as well.

If you've got anxiety today, just think how you're going to feel in a week...lol. I think you're going to realize some really strong prices (which should help with any anxiety)...I wish you luck.
