    I like 1921 for all the new coins from 1916 plus Morgans (although the uglier version) and the HR Peace Dollar. That beats the Barber coinage IMO.

    18th Century: Tough call but I'm going to go with 1796. I'm partial to the quarter and the no stars quarter eagle.
    19th Century: 1839
    20th Century: 1916
    21st Century: I guess it will take 82 more years to figure that one out.

    I still think people are putting too much weight on when the coins debuted. All those 1916 coins are still around in 1921! It’s really a question of one Barber design on 2 denominations vs. the Morgan and High Relief Peace Dollar.

    DDO Buffalo
    DIme transition
    1916-D Mercury Dime
    Quarter transition
    1916 SLQ
    Half Dollar Transition
    1916 Obverse mintmark Walkers
    Ok, no dollars. But 1916 has $5, $10, $20 gold from SF only.

    Oh, and all of those "new" designs are among the best ever.

    I also vote for 1916.... some beautiful designs that are still considered some of the finest coin art the U.S. has produced. It is a pleasure just to hold and look at a WLH or a Merc...Cheers, RickO

    If the Mint paid a proportional sum to today's finest sculptors, we might, again, have high quality, artistic designs. The present stuff is largely commercial sketch work.

    Actually the "best" year was a century earlier. 1816. Everyone should have a complete year/denomination/mint set. ;

    Thought about this and I'd have to go with 1916 as well, however 1936 would be second with the reintroduction of proof coinage
