I see wear so I'll guess AU-58 not that wear precludes the grading services from giving out MS grades these days.

I think it's genuine, but I can't see it grading any higher than AU-55.

I was going to type AU53, but I have since changed my mind and will go with the group- AU55.

It's definitely genuine. Since PCGS graded it why would some of you consider the possibility that it's fake?

Pretty much my thoughts, I was swayed to 55 by originality.

My first thought was 53. Of course I know pretty much nothing about grading gold...

  • Options

It looks like 53 to me too, but these days a bit higher on AU gold seems to be the norm.

No matter what grade PCGS chose to confer, it's a very attractive and totally original better date coin with great color.

Certainly not my series and I doubt I've owned a dozed $5 gold in 50 years....It's probably a nice 50.

I would say 58 but I always lose at these so maybe, 50 at worst wouldn't surprise me to see it in a 53 though! Cool coin!

My guess was 53 before seeing any replies. I don’t think it has enough luster to go higher, but it does have pretty light wear overall. Averaging 50 luster and maybe 55 wear gets me to split the difference. Nice color.

    Pretty coin.

My thought, too. I think it looks better in that shot. That said, while my gut was 53 from the first photos, I thought it had more upside than downside there. Even without the new photos, I wouldn't have had a problem with the grade, it just wasn't my gut guess.

I guessed 58 before I scrolled down to the reveal (honest). I'd say a OGH 55 with a green bean would be a 58 today. I like it a lot, especially the original surfaces
