If I sold something at that price I'd rather make a hint on the listing to contact me privately rather than giving ebay 10% of that.
eBay fees max at $250 or $750 (I believe) if you don't have a store.
It is actually waaaaay cheaper to sell this coin on eBay than at Stack's, Heritage or Great Collections [not that they are really selling it.]

I saw that yesterday and thought it was a scam???
That’s a lot considering the PR64 just sold for $3.5M
It has make an offer. If someone offers $3M, they should take it. If you have not seen the bidding for this coin, it would be interesting to watch. It was record for television due to the publicity around finding this lost coin. There was a finders fee if the bid did not reach a certain point. I don’t remember how much. The bidders got a little excited.

Looking at the listing and past sales, I thought that too. Though I would think a scam would have too low of a price.
Anyway, I will go to the display and hand over my cash to whoever says they are the owner. I am also looking to buy a bridge in Brooklyn.
The description doesn't sound the most professional:
"This coin is currently on display in the ANA museum in Colo Springs, (It also be on display at the ANA convention in Philadelphia), you can take title to it there with if you purchase. Physical possession avail after the display contract is fulfilledz"
"To Be Esteemed Be Useful" - 1792 Birch Cent --- "I personally think we developed language because of our deep need to complain." - Lily Tomlin
In addition to that ridiculous item description.....no reverse pic. And other item for sale is an Apple protection plan for $119. If it is legit it’s an embarrassing listing.
So is the seller also the owner? This could be a scam. I can't imagine transferring that amount of money based on the information and image provided. Peace Roy

Sounds like someone with limited English skills listed it on eBay.
...that’s probably why this one is real IMO...maybe the one-handed hand of a Saudi prince authored the listing while riding in the trunk of a Ferrari on the autobahn
One way to find out. Email the seller and tell them you want to buy the coin but you will hand over the money at the ANA and take possession. See what they say. If they come back with - "funds must clear in advance" or "I won't be at the ANA" or some such dodge, you have your answer.
Who actually has title to that coin at the moment? For a coin like that, the owners should all be known.
According to this, the Walton heirs still own the coin. So, it may be the only coin they own. Could be legitimately trying to see if there is any interest at that number. Assuming the Walton heir has an eBay business selling Apple products.

Why the hell did they crack it out? IMO a huge mistake purely as a matter of preservation.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I don't think anyone cracked it out. I think this is before the re-holdered it in a standard holder.

I’ll get a hundred dollar in eBay bucks if I buy it
That makes it tempting.
Wow, way "cool" !!!

But, there is the eBay money back guarantee.
Is Ebay the right venue to sell a coin like this?
Cheesy.
Sounds like someone with limited English skills listed it on eBay.
Local pickup only.
That's exactly what a scammer would want you to think.
The label is crooked, I don't want it.

If I was spending 5 mill on a coin on ebay I would at least want the description to be worded correctly and not sound like a 6 year old wrote it
HAPPY COLLECTING

Smells very very fishy to me. I would never even drop five figures to buy something on eBay unless I knew 100% who the seller was.
Too many red flags. Pass.

Take 5 million anywhere you can get it.

edited to say that this article is nonsense. The Walton's sold the coin in 2013.
The coin was recently sold (again). The Walton heirs sold it a few years ago. You can find the sale on Heritage.
2013 sale by the Waltons. Pretty sloppy journalism in the article above given it was written in June 2018.
Pulled.
The link in the OP now shows a 1903 nickel for $50.... I guess the Walton nickel listing was pulled....Cheers, RickO
The listing was edited to change it to the 1903. It is the same lot # (and the people watching are now watching this lot)
Somebody wanna remove their ‘disagree’ from my post above now?
The reserve for the Eliasberg PR66 was posted today at $3,000,000
I think an investigation should be done on this posting. We need a special prosecutor.
