Why the hell did they crack it out? IMO a huge mistake purely as a matter of preservation.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I don't think anyone cracked it out. I think this is before the re-holdered it in a standard holder.

  • If I sold something at that price I'd rather make a hint on the listing to contact me privately rather than giving ebay 10% of that.

I saw that yesterday and thought it was a scam???

That’s a lot considering the PR64 just sold for $3.5M

It has make an offer. If someone offers $3M, they should take it. If you have not seen the bidding for this coin, it would be interesting to watch. It was record for television due to the publicity around finding this lost coin. There was a finders fee if the bid did not reach a certain point. I don’t remember how much. The bidders got a little excited.

Looking at the listing and past sales, I thought that too. Though I would think a scam would have too low of a price.

Anyway, I will go to the display and hand over my cash to whoever says they are the owner. I am also looking to buy a bridge in Brooklyn.

The description doesn't sound the most professional:

"This coin is currently on display in the ANA museum in Colo Springs, (It also be on display at the ANA convention in Philadelphia), you can take title to it there with if you purchase. Physical possession avail after the display contract is fulfilledz"

In addition to that ridiculous item description.....no reverse pic. And other item for sale is an Apple protection plan for $119. If it is legit it’s an embarrassing listing.

But, there is the eBay money back guarantee.

Sounds like someone with limited English skills listed it on eBay.

If I was spending 5 mill on a coin on ebay I would at least want the description to be worded correctly and not sound like a 6 year old wrote it

So is the seller also the owner? This could be a scam. I can't imagine transferring that amount of money based on the information and image provided. Peace Roy

Smells very very fishy to me. I would never even drop five figures to buy something on eBay unless I knew 100% who the seller was.

...that’s probably why this one is real IMO...maybe the one-handed hand of a Saudi prince authored the listing while riding in the trunk of a Ferrari on the autobahn ;)

One way to find out. Email the seller and tell them you want to buy the coin but you will hand over the money at the ANA and take possession. See what they say. If they come back with - "funds must clear in advance" or "I won't be at the ANA" or some such dodge, you have your answer.

Who actually has title to that coin at the moment? For a coin like that, the owners should all be known.

According to this, the Walton heirs still own the coin. So, it may be the only coin they own. Could be legitimately trying to see if there is any interest at that number. Assuming the Walton heir has an eBay business selling Apple products.

edited to say that this article is nonsense. The Walton's sold the coin in 2013.

The coin was recently sold (again). The Walton heirs sold it a few years ago. You can find the sale on Heritage.

2013 sale by the Waltons. Pretty sloppy journalism in the article above given it was written in June 2018.

The link in the OP now shows a 1903 nickel for $50.... I guess the Walton nickel listing was pulled....Cheers, RickO

The listing was edited to change it to the 1903. It is the same lot # (and the people watching are now watching this lot)
