First Deal I've ever gotten from a pawn shop.

I go to a couple thrift stores and a couple pawn shops in a town I work in. Just looking for something interesting. Today was the first day I seen a coin in this little pawn shop. It was in a little ziplock baggie and laying upside down. I was about to leave and thought I'd ask to see it for the fun of it. Pawn coins are always priced waaaay too high for me. Anyway, the guy pulled the bag out and told me it was $14.99. I said I'll take it. Would you have bought it?

A steal not a deal.
What kind of pawn shop worker has no clue about basic silver price?
Did that include tax?
I know right?? Less than the price of silver!

Whenever precious metals and numismatics get offered out of the pawn shops I have been in, either a) the seller has gotten the shaft; or b) title hadn't lawfully passed to the seller.
With tax was $16.23.

Great Catch! if you check the Inventory tag it is dated 4/4/2015 someone has not kept up with silver pricing. at the time silver was running anywhere between 15 and 17 dollars making there mark-up somewhere in the 19.35 range if you take it times .77344 to come up with the price of 14.97 per ounce of silver Still a Great Catch!
I would’ve bought it in a heartbeat
Awesome nice photography too.
Nice pickup! And for the price it was a nice deal. Thanks for sharing...

Unreal.

Heck yeah!

Nice!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Melt value of the coin is $11.81 as of 8/2 at coinflation.com/unitedstates/. Still a great deal, but the coin was not sold at less than melt.
The pardon is for tyrants. They like to declare pardons on holidays, such as the birthday of the dictator, or Christ, or the Revolution. Dictators should be encouraged to keep it up. And we should be encouraged to remember that the promiscuous dispensation of clemency is not a sign of political liberality. It is instead one of those valuable, identifying marks of tyranny.

I don't remember saying Melt! Silver price as of 8/2 is $15.305

Great pickup Bobby. That is a cool coin for less than melt. Congrats.

Based on this thread, I guess there's a lot of people that think a Morgan dollar contains an ounce of silver!?? coinflation.com/coins/1878-1921-Silver-Morgan-Dollar-Value.html

Holy crap! What a great pick up.
Worth at least $15.
WTG.
Lance.
nice one, congrats
I wonder if they would have taken $12.99?

That is a sweet pick up. I would have bought that in a second and then asked if they had anymore in the back.
Care to double your money?
Collector, occasional seller
No. But generally at current silver prices, you’d be lucky to even get a heavily worn piece of junk Morgan for $14.99. Hence the appreciation for this deal: a lustrous, solid looking MS64 with cool color in an old Fatty slab. I wager this coin could sell pretty easily on the BST here for $100.
You suck!

Find the owner/manager and hand him an extra forty bucks.
After he gets over the shock, he may let you in on a bunch of other coin deals.
Absolutely !!!
Man, deals like this occur once in a blue moon- a nice blue w/o moon money! Congratulations!
That is a great deal.... Even raw Morgans are more expensive than that in the antique shops in this town.... Yes, I would have grabbed that one (even with the tarnish
) at that price. Cheers, RickO
Whew when even ricko likes it you know you've got something
An unstickered NGC coin? I’m surprised he didn’t have to pay you to take it. </end sarcasm>
Great score and nice toning!
Man lighten up dude! I've been collecting long enough to know what coins weigh and how much silver is in them. The statement I used "Less than the price of silver!" was mostly made in fun anyway. Silver was at $15.30 and the price tag shows $14.99. All in jest! As the old saying goes, "If you don't have nothing nice to say, Get the heck off my thread!!!

@bsshog40 There's a new pawn shop that opened up about 3 miles from me 6 months ago... Guess who is finally going there today?

Shoot fire, I probably would have pulled a muscle getting my wallet out of my pocket fast enough!

Oh yeah... Nice coin and a good find.
That's a pretty coin. I would have to act quickly to not appear really excited about it.
Something like "Well, I'll guess I can use it....Hmmmm, Ok, I'll take it.
Dang! In a fatty no less!

Nice find at that price! Does not matter that the "grade" is about 3 points too high.
The days of pawn shops was back in the seventies,
I got three 8 Escudos and a 1795 dollar and a 1870CC dollar out of the WINDOW in one of em on one day.
Maybe the pawn shops around here are worth a visit once in awhile. You've just convinced me. Nice catch!!!!
I knew it would happen.
