Coin store burglary, Palo Alto, California
I used to live in the area and bought and sold coins to this store.
Palo Alto: Collectible coins litter roadway after interrupted burglary
A stretch of Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto briefly was littered with hundreds of collectible coins early Saturday as suspects fled in a vehicle from an interrupted store burglary, police said.
Police responded at 2:36 a.m. to a silent alarm activation at The Coin Broker at Town & Country Village shopping center and observed several men standing in front of the store, which was closed. They ran as soon as they saw the officers, but the officers used their vehicles to block two of the suspects from escaping. They were detained without further incident, according to a police statement.

Stupid is as stupid does.
At least they were caught!
My YouTube Channel
again give them what they deserve
I grew up in Palo Alto and am very familiar with this coin store. I too would trade with this guy back in the day.
I sure glad they caught at least two of the creeps
We're still living in the Wild West.

Jamel and Jamal is like an In Living Color skit.
California again. Not surprised.
I just Google earthed the address and I sold a bunch of coins (nothing huge) to one guy a few miles from him. I wonder if they've done business. I'd imagine he's been to his B&M.
But, I am so glad nobody got killed.
They would've been good for my target shooting
Only caught 50% of them, the other two are still out there.
Too many people wanted a piece of the pie. They should've planted surveillance around the few blocks and have getaway routes or places to stash goods. Probably would've been better off putting on hard hats and high vis vests.
The dude on the right sure look older than 25!!!
They were wearing dark-colored clothing, including hooded sweatshirts with the hoods up.
Why not just say, Hoodies!
.

That's a bad thing to happen.
Wow. I used to frequent the store, too. Seeing your headline, I thought it might be Rudy's, but I think he does mostly stamps now.
Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association
Rudy still does coins, too.
I wasnt aware that the getaway car a Kia Soul was capable of a high rate of speed. I'm glad they caught these two anyway.

Do you think the coins are going to need new holders now?
We need to understand these criminals, they look like young men that got into trouble as they were not involved in productive work. I hope our correctional institutions are helping these wayward people turn their lives around.
They could provide a welcome relief to the "pocket change" posts we've seen lately.
Now now, we can't be a callin em criminals don'tchya know. They're "judicially involved."
Either that or "economically challenged."
They are freakin' punk thugs... Low life crap and will end up in and out of prison until they are killed or kill someone....This kid glove justice system has to stop and people must be made to pay heavily for crime. It will not stop crime, however, it will tend to reduce it. Of course, being California, they will likely get probation and a strong admonishment....
Cheers, RickO
We need a punishment of days of old. Would be more of a deterrent. Jerry Brown will let these guys will be out back on the streets in days.

Let them go..... the cops acted stupidly
I read about this in a different article. Two things come to mind. One, Cypress and L. A. are quite a ways from Palo Alto, like 3 - 400 miles away. I wonder if these thieves have been traveling around breaking into different locales. Two, the 20 year old is out on bail before trial for another felony. One would hope he goes away for a good long time.

What could go wrong?
This was not a burglery, these were just undocumented customers.
Yes and be aware that in many states (like mine) a prior conviction cannot be entered as evidence in a criminal trial, only for sentencing .
Anyone wearing a hoodie in July is up to no good.
Had a good laugh.
You sound like one that got away.
And, you can't trust someone wearing a tunic (see Land of the Lost).
I posted on another coin shop theft over at the precious metals forum, much shrewder thieves: https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1002867/coin-shop-theft#latest
Just a matter of time before the other two are ratted out. Give it a few days and all four will be in custody.

Haven’t we had a dude posting all of his “error” coins lately that were parking lot fresh?
