Lebanese mafia who 'stole the world's biggest gold coin weighing 220lbs and worth £3.3million then melted it down after daring heist on German museum' have 77 properties seized in raids
German police have seized 77 properties linked to a Lebanese crime family
Remmo clan are accused of buying the real estate with money from burglaries
They are also believed to be behind the theft of 100kg solid gold Maple Leaf coin
16 family members have now been accused of money laundering in addition to three others who have been charged with stealing the coin

WHAT WAS 'THE BIG MAPLE LEAF'?
In 2007 the Royal Canadian Mint produced the world's largest ever gold coin, which was then worth £1million, to promote a line of much-smaller gold coins that it had just begun selling.

Like all newly minted Canadian coins, it featured an image of Britain's Queen Elizabeth on the rear, as Canada's head of state.

But after several interested buyers came forward for the larger version, the mint decided to make four more coins to sell.

One was bought by Queen Elizabeth herself, two more went to Saudi Arabia, one stayed in Canada and the fifth was sold to German businessman Boris Fuchsmann.

In 2010 Fuchsmann loaned the coin to the Bode Museum, in Berlin, and it went on show in December.

The coin remained there until it was stolen in the early hours of March 27, 2017, and has not been seen since.

I wonder if they have evidence to link them to the theft.... well, that would be necessary here in the U.S., perhaps not so much in their courts. I hope it was them and though the gold will not come back, at least recompense may be realized and the perpetrators punished. Cheers, RickO

The problem was it wasn't slabbed by PCGS with its anti-theft tracking device. Hope Queen Elizabeth is taking note.

It was not a medal. It was a coin. There's a difference.

The mint makes enough stupid junk already at tax payer’s expense. We don’t need more.

They made one of a $20 in 1933. The Secret Service is still trying to figure out how it got out of the mint and who's safe it's in now ;););)

The one that was stolen was more than likely broken/melted down for scrap...I have been wrong before.

The time and energy spent scheming, plotting, breaking, entering, melting, peddling, and washing the dirty money to buy "ground" must have been fun while it lasted. Seems a bit risqué. Could make a great movie, one day. I think one of our illustrious researchers /writers could make another million off that story. In the publishing biz, I mean.

I'm waiting for the book. ( not the one that gets thrown at the perps ... that's probably a slap on the wrist )
