The sellers other auctions look real, so it appears his uncle got screwed on this one

There are several things that don't look correct, but the Native Chief's foot is totally messed up.
I don't like the images. I'd pass.

Agree the reverse looks even more fake - like one of those 3" coasters

If at all. I reported a fake Missouri a while back and it went the duration.
If it were real, I know I could live with that particular thumb print. Scarce coin if real.
Scarce??? A few years ago, I noticed a major auction that had something like 50 of these! A coin like that is not scarce.

I'll happily stick with my word "scarce". I was gauging off of the top possible number of ten thousand examples, minted just prior to the Great Depression. I doubt that I have seen fifty pieces in dealer showcases over the years.
The thumbing would be nothing too objectionable if that coin were real.
50 fakes? But it is from a smoke free home.
One commem I've never owned. And would not own this one.
That "foot" looks more like a ....hand.
Fake with 42 bids wow. But they are still selling on EBay.

seeing this caused me to look through CoinFacts at some images and I found the two coins listed below, each with a different grade. Interesting.
I use the PCGS images quite often. I will scroll through the images looking for the coin offered by the dealer or auction. It amazes me how often I find the image.....at a lower grade. Guess people can't be blamed for "maxing" out the grade, but Gradeflation has really hurt our hobby!
I recently found a coin that I needed for my registry. It is "top pop" and priced very reasonably. It is in a 67+ PCGS holder. I always compare the coin I'm interested in to the images of other coins in the same grade. If it is noticeably poorer than the other images, I pass. This was noticeably poorer than other 67+ images. Scrolling down further, I found the coin in question....graded 66!!
They didn't even try with that one. I can't believe anyone fell for it, but it looks like they did and are.
in all fairness to our Host we shouldn't be too critical about the Hawaiian. one is graded 65 and the other 65+, so without knowing when either was graded it is entirely possible that the initial grade was at a time when the "+" wasn't yet available. all in all, I think it is a lovely example with pleasant and unique tone.
which begs another question --- if you look at the nicer toned Hawaiian's in CoinFacts they all lean towards a yellow-brown-green shade, unusual for silver. what was the packaging that caused this shade??

Keets, I agree with this post. But read my post....66 all the way up to 67+??? Difference of $8,950 based upon PCGS stated values for this coin.
I don't want to post the exact coin here, since the dealer is a good egg. If anyone is interested, they can message me.

I watch early commems every day on ebay and there are countless counterfeits just like this for sale. Its not only the Hawaiian its several issues they counterfeit. All with poor and exaggerated details. They can be spotted a mile away. There's to many to many to take the time to report.
