I have always liked F to VF on Walker Halves. I just think they look great. What do you find pleasing to the eye in coins that have been workhorses for the economy of their time? Feel free to post pics!

I'd have to say 35 is my sweet spot. I just love circs with "the look" in any grade though.

I'm with you, Hallco. I am working on a matched set of Walkers in F15-VF20. Mercs too. I don't have the 1921 issues in either series, or the 16-D Merc. But the hardest thing about their acquisition is not their availability, but prying open the wallet. What I really want next is a VF20 16-S Walker in strictly problem-free, medium silver. No stains, digs, rim dings, discolorations, dark toning, old cleanings, or scratches. Anywhere. Really, is that too much to ask?

Yes, Walkers look good in F-VF. I think we like them at those grades because that's the condition we saw them in when we were kids and they were in circulation. It brings back memories. I agree.

When I started out collecting Walkers; I was very pleased with obtaining XF through AU coins. They had 'the look'.

35-45 in general, except gold at 53-55, and I love playing with a big old bag of slick quarters. I have nerve issues in my hands (now bone, great), and CRH or playing with coins helps my dexterity. I am a few weeks of practice and some muscle growth on the back of my hand. Soon I'll be able to dance a Morgan across my knuckles again. It's not hard but if your hands or fingers are damaged, it's harder than it seems.
I'm also learning small sleight of hand for more advanced work (left hand).
I love a big old bucket of circulated copper, no culls, more browns than anything.
Is it wrong of me to have a soft spot for corroded Indian Head Cent's that are F-XF? If so I will take IHC F-XF for 100 please.

I'm lucky to have dups on a number of early issues and I know I'll sell the higher graded piece.

AU-58, but not as currently defined and graded by the TPGs.
Depends on the coin and the series. For common date classic gold, it's the highest MS grade just before the big jump in price at the next higher grade. For better date early classic gold, XF45 to AU58.

Jokes aside I have always felt an original au53 offered the best compromise between price and preservation. Also it has an unspoken benefit of being just low enough that processing most often won’t help the eye appeal or it slide to UNC so one can find a higher percentage of them not messed with.

I like vf35 for the Bust Dimes. Lots of detail remaining without the price tag of the higher grades.
Xf 45 or au58
VF30 for Barber material is my power alley.

XF 45 for 19th century type. Somehow most of it graded AU 50 doesn't look very good.
AU50 has been used as a net grade for ugly low end AU coins or dead XF coins with too much detail. I consider it a grade to avoid with exceptions

XF 40-45.... I like the look of silver in that segment....Of course, most old 45's are now AU....so I guess I might like some of them as well....
It is likely obvious that I do not hold much respect for our artificial grading system....We could dispense with eighty five to ninety percent of these numbers and do just fine. Of course, those of us with the nitty gritty OCD will still need to bisect the hair.... 
And I sure do not want to harm the TPG business...

Being an 19th Century Everyman Set collector, AU58+ would be best! The coin was used in commerce, but just barely enough to acquire some surface contaminants to develop some tone.

Early type like this in EF45, with the eagle's breast feathers still apparent, are my favorite circulated condition.
Commems and Early Type
I like XF or AU coins -- coins with some mint luster.
Some series still look quite good at much lower levels of detail, for instance large cents or many of the earlier issues, but generally I prefer my coins to have some luster left -- but it really depends on the series.
high grade au
VF-20 to XF-45 is what I shoot for. It is very difficult to find state colonials in most of the series that I collect in higher grades. Even then, an Unc could be poorly struck or defective which is a no go for me. Foreign colonials I tend to look for VF-30 to pleasing Unc.
I like the AU58 and AU58+ grades they always look better than most MS 63
Well if you gotta have some circulated coins in your your sets, I too like the dirty mercs and walkers. VF-XF, good details without breaking the bank.
