if I would start a new set and I would like to do something again not many people have done before, what would you recommend me to collect and for what reasons ?
(1) 1792 patterns
(2) proof type set
(3) pioneer gold type set

You should collect what YOU like, but of the three mentioned, 1792 patterns sound very intriguing (to me).

Pioneer gold has the most fascination for me, but I'm not sure that hasn't been done? Was the Henry H. Clifford collection pretty much complete?
It'd be nice to see it CAC-approved though. Not much of that stuff is original.
My choice of the 3 listed would be the Proof Type Set. The reason is the other 2 are of no interest to me.
I always thought a set of every overdate coin was kind of neat and unique. It does have some extreme challenges though (if you include the gold) and has been done before.
I think in this disposable everything world we tend to forget how our ancestors saved up and repurposed every unused or lightly used thing that still had usefulness where possible.
You can always add world coins if it’s too easy (or too hard)
...I'll choose the "?" as I'm sure that whatever you put together will be Awesome and who doesn't like a good mystery

I would do the 1792 patterns. Not sure why but something old, historical and simple designs, it attracts me more....
1792 Pattern Set - a major financial challege, and you will have to wait in line to have the opportunitey to buy several of the pieces.
Proof Type Set - Something I would like to do and have done to a certain level, although no where near would you probably want to do. I am happy with PR-64 coins with their original skins. I am sure you would be aiming higher.
Pioneer Gold Type Set - Once more a major financial challenge. It's an area that I have only touched with one coin. It's totally out of my realm.
When a collector suggested that he wanted to get into this area to the late Herb Silberman, who was one of the founders of the Early American Coppers Club, he stated that authenticity was a problem. I'm sure that he had John Ford in mind.
I was just a young fly on the wall at the time in the mid 1970s.

If I had to pick from these 3, it would be a proof type set as I think it encompasses more of a variety. The other sets would not hold my interest.

bad news on the 1792 set. There is someone out there building a set (not w/me).
I love the idea of a type proof set and think it would have the widest appeal.
The 1792 set, that way you don't break my bank while I bid on the Washington Gold Pattern...
But seriously, the 1792 patterns are historically significant and the most fascinating (in my opinion).
pioneer gold type set ...... no one ever complete it before and I doubt anyone could make 90% completion in his life time. Only 64 coins are needed for a complete Basic type set and 116 coins are needed for a complete set. Most dealers won't recommend you to do this set because material are so hard to find. Best luck if you want to go down this path
Any of these would be a good extension of a US type set. The 1792 patterns would, I imagine, require some serious patience but would seem to me the most logical extension. For the sake of enjoyment I would combine it with one or more other areas of interest, for the "action". I moved into both Colonials (history) and Proofs (beauty) once I had completed the US set (within my more modest budget). You didn't mention a Colonial type set, but it would be a good extension, perhaps limited to local issues as a matter of fit with a Federal set.
I would do a proof type set.

This is my favorite...a copper 1792 quarter.
The proof type set would be a great choice.... Being a gold lover, I would really like to see a set of pioneer gold types...and that would be the greater challenge...Cheers, RickO

The one that interests me personally the most is the proof type set. All 3 would be fun and challenging I'm sure, can't go wrong.

Have you already assembled a Colonial typeset? You'll undoubtedly keep yourself busy for quite some time looking for the right pieces.
Great time to branch out into currency -large size US type set - many beautiful designs and even with the Anderson collection coming to market now it will still present a challenge to complete
