If so, what would that advantage be?

A mind reader would have an advantage everywhere.... except marriage. He still wouldn’t have a F-n clue what the hell she was talking about or wanted.
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
I can state factually, insiders sort of can figure who is on what coin and have an idea how the players bid. we even know when we are being shilled. We know buying patterns, etc of many people
Can you mind read over the internet?
On the OFR that would be impossible.
For the sake of the discussion though, Bruce, mind reading only works with folks in the nearby vicinity.
--I have given this answer some more thought. Good science fiction needs to stay somewhere near reality. Your question is valid as much of the auction activity comes from around the country and the globe. For internet telepathy to work on a potential pool of 100,000 bidders is a stretch that Gene Roddenberry would not touch.
I only use a "Ouija" board or the "Mystery 8 Ball".
In the Pogue auctions for example, it would have been advantageous to know what the reserves were.
actually we did know the reserves on Pogue-it was the lowest estimate.
Was that true as well on the Dexter 1804?
Only when people are 100% convinced that shill bidding is going on.
The dexter dollar and the 1822 $5 Pogue made up their minds the very last second. We all had been trying to pin down a reserve and they would not tell us. In the end, those 2 coins were not for sale.
This was 100% factual about the reserves tho
Can a mind reader read the mind of a potted plant?
Would work great playing poker.
Can you guys link or extrapolate on the auctions and pieces you're speaking of? I could probably get it in pieces digging around on Google but some firsthand experience and knowledge is priceless. Thanks in advance if so.
While mind reading - the actual ability - is not yet reality, those who study people and behavior, have a distinct advantage when dealing directly with individuals. Facial expression, speech, physical actions - all give messages to those who can 'read' them. These skills are of incredible value in negotiations...Also, a good poker player can win consistently, even with bad cards, if that person can 'read' the other players. Cheers, RickO
Interesting paradox. Ultimately the auction house or seller has the advantage. Even a mind reader likely can't account for sudden impulsive bids.
Highly enthusiastic about world coins, contemporary circulating counterfeits and unusual stuff
when u do enough auctions you know the game. Like which firm is notorious for letting the potted plant bid, or which firm allows its consignors to bid, or which firm has in house shills, etc.
You can figure things out, the game actually is quite silly.
You’ve got your 1804s mixed up.
