Is this a PCGS sample slab?

    I found this link. There is no consensus, but a good guess is that these were made as promotional slabs (likely by some dealer).

    Very interesting. I vote possibly a promo, but not a sample (but sometimes those two get combined).

    I have some Vatican City 50 cent coins slabbed by NGC as "BU" (no MS#). They were made for MCM who sold them that way.

    I'll bet some retailer shipped off a bunch of low grade 09VDBs to have slabbed like this for some promotion. Probably cost next to nothing to get slabbed.

    I agree, the two are a lot of time interchangeable, promos are in a sense samples. I think its cool. For sale?

    If each slab has a unique cert number, would that make them non-samples?

    Are promo slabs all samples?

    Promotional slabs and sample slabs are two different entities.....Keiffer would have given us a dissertation on this issue...Cheers, RickO

    I don't know if it's a sample or not but I like it alot!

    Would be neat for variety coins to have the picture of what it is doubling, omm, that sort off thing
