Not doing a good job hiding the grade

If you're trying to hide the coin's grade, you're doing it wrong.
I have very little experience with PCGS slabs, but this seller isn't hiding much by ONLY hiding the "AG03" printed on the slab.
After all, the grade is right there at the start of the certificate number, and you can look the cert number up online and learn it's an AG3.
Now I must admin, this is a very good looking coin for an AG3. So rather than trying to hide the grade, crack it open and resubmit... especially if you're going to try to sell it for G4 money.

I used to have a 21 that looked very similar to that one.
Has was the 21 graded?
I keep looking at the 16-D linked above, and I can't figure out why it didn't grade G6 or better.
No, it was raw. Conservatively I graded it a 4 when I sold it. Sometimes it's hard to tell from pictures what we might not be seeing. Or the grader might have been having an off day?

You definitely make a good arguement for the grade!
You might even argue that the reverse in the listing could even be an 8!
At this level, it's generally the amount of rim wear into the lettering that makes the difference between AG2-G6.
I've got a G6, and over all, I think this coin is better than mine.

I can see your point for sure. Maybe the scratches in front of and behind her head on that coin are more distracting in hand? Not sure. Yours is very nice though. No shame in owning that one!

Isnt that listing against ebay rules for graded coins. I thought you must show the label if listing as graded?

I don't think scratches would be it... if you look closely at the face of mine, there's a set of round scratches on the face from an old coin bank.
Thanks. I've liked the otherwise clean look of the coin. I've seen lots of VG8-F15 that looked so bad, I wouldn't want to trade for them.
Seller states that "it may have been cleaned in the past", which is not an enticing statement, so I doubt he "hid" the grade for nefarious reasons.
It could be, as suggested, to try to get people to look at the coin, itself, for the value, versus the plastic grade...not sure why else he may do it, as he has other coins he is selling, including a raw 1916-D (for ~$30 more).
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I don't collect Mercury Dimes anymore, but when I did it was on opposite extremes...low grades from 3 to 12....or MS67! Lol!
I did a quick search of eBay guide lines for selling coins and the only thing I could find was a statement that said graded coins with a value of $2,500 or more had to have a grade assigned to it.
Geez !!!
This is false, graded coins can be listed on eBay without pictures of slabs included at all.

The last time I was active here in the forum, it seemed that "officially" PCGS didn't do "Net" grades. But even back then, it seemed like an open secret that they unofficially didn't follow their own rules/policies when it came to high-priced key date coins such as the Mercury 1916-D. Now that I'm getting back into collecting, I'm seeing PCGS slabs with net grades and other additional descriptions.
You're right... I looked back as some of the recent PCGS slabs I've seen and what has changed is that they will list what is wrong with the coin and then list the "grade level" of the details: "PCGS Genuine, Cleaned - XF Details".

I would not even consider an ebay auction with the grade covered (Yes, I know, the number is there anyway on the cert number line)....obviously the seller did not know this... no need for such deception. Cheers, RickO
