New 1910-D Indian Eagle to Share

This 1910-D Indian Eagle arrived today from Mike Printz at HJB. It's in a PCGS AU-58 holder. It's got real nice orange-yellow color and has exceptionally clean surfaces. Accurately graded (in my opinion) with a light brush of friction on the cheek on the obverse and very light rub on the high points of the feathers on the reverse. I've always thought this design was one of the prettiest coins ever made. In fact, I just might try to put a date run of these together...the full set is a little too much of a commitment for me at 32 coins, while the date set at 15 coins is just about right...which is really 12 coins for me since I really can't afford the 1920-S, 1930-S, or 1933. I don't recall many threads on Indian Eagles...anyone collect them by date or date/mintmark? Photo credit to Mike Printz. Just wanted to share - comments/feedback both good and bad welcomed.

Nice coin and a good start. Keep in mind with a bit of patience you can get the common dates up to MS63 for a small premium over AU. Even MS64s for about a grand can be found on the 1926 and 1932.
Appears to be a nice, accurately graded AU coin. Nice acquisition. The 12-coin almost-date set is still a very nice presentation and a reasonable goal in real AU or MS63-64. When searching, be careful that the "MS-63s" are not inferior to your 1910-D in wear or surface marks.
The other reason to consider MS63 is there might be some downside protection if the price of gold were to drop sharply since common date AUs will likely fluctuate mostly in lock step with bullion where Choice BU and up (63+) will likely retain more numismatic value. Very nice Eagle.... and excellent pictures.... A short set matching this one would look great. When it comes to gold coins, I really prefer them without the slab. Sure, I have many in slabs, but to really appreciate the beauty, raw is my preferred way. Cheers, RickO

1910-D is one of the best struck coins of the Saint-Gaudens Eagle series....but there's considerable individual variation.

The first $10 Indian I ever owned was a 1910-D. I bought it from Stacks' over the counter in the mid 1960s for $43. It would grade MS-60 today.

Really like that coin. Looks like a perfect AU65 coin with dusky gold look to it. Holler if you ever get tired of it. I have a set it would fit in nicely....
