1860 Indian Head Cent, opinions?

My friend a fellow forum member got this coin yesterday. We were both wondering everybody's opinions about the coin.
I saw the coin in person yesterday and it has really nice luster in my opinion...
Also guess the grade if you care to.

    Serious "educational" question if you care to reply and have the time. What would EAC grade this (pretend it's a Large cent) and for what reasons? It won't change the assigned commercial grade of the coin.

    I didn't say that it would be the coin I would buy. The eye appeal is not somthing that attracts me, but surfaces are smooth, the luster is there, and there aren't very many marks. This is the kind of piece that coin doctor would have played with years ago to make it bright. That is choice when you demand original surfaces. They don't always stay bright.

    Here is an 1860 cent that I bought raw years ago and had slabbed by NGC. They called it MS-64, which I think is accurate.

    The hit over the E [reverse] and the crud over the C bother me.
    I think the crud over the C could possibly grow

    It looks like a nice 58 to me, but it could be in a 62 or 63 slab....That cut on the reverse, and the chatter on the obverse, and somewhat flat luster should preclude it from a grade over 63....but who knows.
    Bill's coin looks like a 64, with the reverse a 65, but it is also looks like a clearer photograph.

    Sorry, I cheated and looked.

    Not to play spoiler alert, but if it was the grade some mentioned, i couldn't afford it, and I am working on a high grade set of Indian cents...the highest grades I can afford that is.

    So for me, it's still on my wish list. :)

    Not a problem. It's kinda hard to tell in the picture and it does have good luster... :)

    I'd say 63 and since no one mentioned, it's the pointed bust variety.

    Now you've done it - Posted another coin in the thread to confuse the posts! I'm sorry (NOT) I asked a simple question. You posted that in your opinion the coin is graded 64. DONE! I don't care if you would buy it or not. My as personal grade is lower. DONE.

    This is what I'm curious about: How would an EAC Grader handle this coin? LOL, I know, carefully by the edge. Now if you choose to reply...

    So far: Not attracted to the eye appeal. Nice, mark free surfaces and luster. EAC Grade:

    PS IMO, your coin is nicer.

    I'm not a member of EAC anymore and not fond of net grading. Frome what I have read in the grading guide written by three EAC folks. They grade the coin first by the amount of detail remaining and then arrive at the actual grade by factoring in any defects.

    I am still waiting :( for an advanced "copper collector" to walk us through the entire operation as done in the grading book I'm studying.

    62.... I don't see wear, but @EagleEye sees it as a 58 and there's the rub.

    Looks like a true 58, but could have been given any grade up to 62/63.
    I like it as a 58/62.
    The luster looks dull.

    I will say 58. The obverse looks 63ish but the reverse has a flaw and the crud/Verdigris on both sides is distracting. (don't read my opinion as harsh). The coin is a nice collectible.

    Some wear on the coin and on the diamonds I'll go with AU55/58.

    I saw the other thread before this one.... the IHC BillJones posted is a really nice coin... 64 is justified there. Cheers, RickO
