I often hear concerns about how the 'hobby is dying' and 'no new/young/ collectors'....Then when new members show up, with questions that clearly demonstrate they are new, they are flamed and derided. That is a sure way to discourage participation. We all started out knowing nothing about coins... we all had questions much like we see being asked.... We cannot get new collectors if we discourage their interest with ridicule. We need to demonstrate patience and offer help. Cheers, RickO

I do understand the frustration with new posters here. I don't think they take the time to learn. Just jump in with posts. I am new to coin collecting but not new to collecting. So to educate myself I have read the last 25 pages of posts here. Looked at e-bay prices, and read many articles that the members here have posted over the last 6 months. As with everything, education comes with a price. I am an avid art collector and concentrate on R. Atkinson Fox (1860-1935). I'll post a few original oils in this thread. I collected T206 cards and complete runs of football 1960-1972. I wanted something else. I thought new ASE's but they seem so common but I did pick up a few. Then looked at Morgans and there are soooo many.

But the Indian Head penny has really caught my eye, so I'm going to join all you fine fellows and dive, buy a partial good collection and fill in and upgrade as I go. No this isn't going to be a $1M collection. I've learned that I don't need the top spots in the registry, ( did that with cards) I'd rather have a nice collection I can look at and not have to stash in my SDB. Been there too. I look at my art every day, why not display some 150 year old coins. Enjoy the artwork.

@2dueces....Welcome aboard...Nice art... Hope to see a lot more of your inputs...Cheers, RickO
I like A. H. Fox. He made some of America's finest shotguns. Fascinating brilliant inventor.
@Paradisefound, that's very nice work. Didn't know you were an artist and a good one.
New name will be added on the initial post to fairly include all. Happy collecting!
Let me know if I missed anyone......
Very kind offer not sure if a few are worthy of your very generous offer. Glad you making them **work **for it rather than hand to them on a silver platter.
The problem is that most of these new gangs is they post coins and ask same questions over and over despite telling them no and where to read more or the best will call you out and be denial of what you said.
Or you have those who think their Don Rickles posting phantom errors.
Paradise I am sure you will choose a worthy person but that list a few of them are not worthy imo is all.
When you decide post their entry as I would like to see how they explain it.
This would mean they would have to do the actual work of learning to locate the coins that are real as opposed to some induced delusional trolling.

A very generous and intelligent give-a-way! I have found that the CPG to Rare Coin Varieties to be a literal page turner and keep them (both volumes) by my bedside.
