Hello CU!

I am Omegaraptor, a 14 year old YN. I have been collecting for about five years now, starting by finding coins from circulation. When I went to the local shop for the first time and bought an 1898 IHC, I knew the bug had got me.
My favorite series is anything designed by Gobrecht, particularly the Seated series. There are many coins in the Seated series which are absolute bargains for the price, and the series is full of varieties. In addition, I cherrypick coins from all types, especially EAC, Indian Head Cents, and I have been learning how to attribute Morgan VAMs. I love cherrypicking because you can make money from your knowledge.
My best cherrypick is probably the time I bought a 1797 S-121b Gripped Edge Large Cent from Ebay for $25 because the seller believed that it was dateless. The edge was not pictured, so you can imagine my suspense when I thought it could possibly be the rare and valuable 121a. It was a high volume seller, but still, how did they miss it? I could probably sell it for much more than I paid, but I’ve been thinking that it’s just too cool to sell, so I still own it.
I wish to learn more about coins from the experienced members of CU. In addition, I wish to contribute some of my knowledge.
I live in the PNW region and always attend the annual show in Portland. I attended the show in Seattle this year as well - great experience.

Welcome
Great to have a YN join
You are off to a good start. You seem to know a lot already, and there is so much more knowledge to learn now than there was when I was your age. Back then all we had to worry about was the denomination, the date, and the mintmark. There were no varieties. There were only two grades: good and bad.
There has been so much numismatic study and literature generated in the past few decades. Some areas of collecting that are hot today did not even exist in the old days. One of my favorites - counterstamps - was barely a side show (even less than now, anyway), and counterstamped coins that are sought after and somewhat valuable today were just culls back then. And Trade Dollars were the red-headed stepchildren (sorry if anyone has red hair) in the hobby. (Forget about chopmakred Trade Dollars!).
If you are actively and successfully cherry picking at your age you might have a career in coins in one capacity or another.
Welcome. You are far ahead of where I was at your age! I think you will fit right in just fine.

Welcome!
I know you will learn a lot and hope you will contribute!
Just don't let some of the negative nellies get to you. The vast majority of us are pretty good people.
At 14 I owned a 1961 proof set and a bunch of cents and nickels pulled from parking meter change and placed in Whitman folders. Plus a few Mercs. Silver was still circulating, but that would change within the year.
I also bought a Red Book - a big expense for me at the time. Loved looking at all those "old" coins and dreaming of what I might be able to own someday.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
