Cost of safe deposit boxes

davids5104davids5104 Posts: 805 ✭✭✭✭

I just got a safe deposit box. I have some coins that I am never going to part with (at least for now) and a few documents to place in it. I wanted to know what people pay for theirs. I was told 129 or 139 dollars a year for the 5X10 that I selected, but with direct withdrawal 20% off and for a certain type of checking account 50% off. It ended up being 38 dollars a year when all said and done. This is very inexpensive. thanks all

$50 a year for the biggest one they have. Loaded I can barely manage it. Pretty good deal I think.

If you don't mind having to open the accounts you got it pretty cheap.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

$38 per year for a 5X10 is a bargain in my neck of the woods. I pay $50 for mine, 50% discount off $100 normal price because I have a high yield savings account with them.

Mine is very large. Largest they have. Holds 12 or 18 (I should know this!) PCGS blue boxes and a little more on top. Roughly $255/year.

I...had... a bank that REQUIRED an employee to remove the damn box.
Who promptly dropped it and a roll of gold coins broke and rolled all over the vault.

I said change your protocol or I change banks.

    I changed banks. :#

Now, how secure is the bank box? AND what is the banks liability in case of any loss?
I do have one. Its basically free because the fee they charge is a tax write off.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life

its in a vault at a bank, which is more secure than my sock drawer. I do not know anything regarding liability. That component does not bother me as my coins are insured and in the policy you specify the location of storage

I pay $85 a year for boxes that are deep and long enough to hold a few NGC or PCGS boxes plus a number of lose slabs.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I have 2 - 5x10x24 boxes and my total cost for a year is $118.

My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.

I'm at $60 for a 2x10 and $121 for a 5x10. In my area there is a waiting list. They don't need to give out good deals.

Ours is free for two more years on our checking account so long as we remain above 500 in checking.

Then it's gonna be 75 a year minus 20 a year auto withdrawal.

I'm waiting for another promo to setup a different bank account for other reasons. I hadn't thought about it when we setup the account but it's not something to say no to.

Not requesting a particular grade? Be careful or you may end up with a "details" grade one ;)
