Something new to the collection.

Was out doing some looking yesterday and found something to add to the hoard. The 1882 is a nicer counterfeit for my counterfeit collection.

Nice lot. What's the tells on the fake?
Do tell what made you think it was a counterfeit

Ever considered investing in one of these? They are designed to measure the metal content of the entire coin, not just the surface like XRF.
Of course this won't help with counterfeits with correct metal content.

I see them a lot more now, price is not that bad I think it was $700 or $800. But like you said if it is gold it will not tell you if it's a fake or not.

But is the 1882 gold or is it some other metal?

Is the gold of the same purity as the real coin? If so, is the only value the scarcity of the coin? i.e. numismatic value vs. PM value? Cheers, RickO
