My pet peeve on many coin websites

Overly segmenting inventory.

Want quarters, OK click quarters, then do you want Early, Bust, Seated, Barber, Washington...

Seated: Do you want 1838-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89 or 90-91...
1840-49: now you you want 40, 41, 42, 43....
42: ahh nothing in stock, sorry.

Yes, that is frustrating. Some sites have it down right - others drive me away.

But first! You have to decide if you want Copper, Nickel, Silver, or Gold! ;)

I also appreciate a website with a menu permanently affixed to the side of every page, allowing you to jump to the next denomination, or design, without having to back out 10 pages from where you are!

That reminded me of one site where you had to select the country first......

Probably my #1 pet peeve on coin websites. Drives me away permanently.
If I want quarters show me all of them with one click!

Agreed, over-segmenting inventory is annoying. The other thing that bothers me (just a personal thing) is when I want to see a larger image of the coin, but the magnifying glass feature only allows me to zoom in on part of the coin. I can either look at a small thumbnail of the coin, or else magnify a corner of the coin, but I can't expand the image to appreciate the eye appeal of the whole coin. I guess it stops people from stealing the images, but it also makes it tougher for me to decide whether I like the coin.

I hate how on ebay you search for a coin you want then narrow to pcgs coins you can't look at ngc without undoing your pcgs search because ngc is hidden

Ideally, at each point in the filtering process,
a count and list of available coins should appear on the right,
and the filter options should appear on the left, with a count of available coins next to each choice.
So you should be able to stop at any point, and also have an idea of how the count will decrease if you extend the filter.
Heritage does it this way; of course they have a lot of experience at this point.

Dealer websites became so cumbersome (for the most part) that I pretty much stopped using all but a couple. Sure, I might miss some deals, but the time and frustration just became too much... Coins are not a business for me.... just a hobby....so, if it becomes 'work', I go elsewhere...... Like shooting or hiking or mowing the lawn. ;) Cheers, RickO

I hate sites like that. The only workaround I've come across is opening different tabs. I'll usually launch my browser in a new window and navigate the site that way, using a right click and open link in new tab.

The root cause of this is that people think that developing a website with a good user experience us a simple task that doesn't have to be well thought out by (or with) someone experienced in doing so.

'C' coins offered at 'A' coin prices, inventory stales for months/years, crowds searches with the same old stuff.

And then you may need to filter out the "stock photo"

I despise that too. When designing SVC, we took great care to have tags if anyone wanted to winnow down, but in general, one page of nice coins for perusal. It gets difficult if you have a monster shop, but there are ways around it.

Yea, you're right. Some of those websites are a pain in the neck to navigate. But on the other hand, there's a whole lot of little kids in this world today who suffer and have a whole lot of things worse on their minds. Think about that the next time you're ticked off because you have to move your finger to hit gold, silver, nickel, or copper. Maybe we're just a little bit spoiled. Or disconnected.
