I was not quite wrong then but looking back to 2017.... I was very wrong @dcarr winged liberty is what I was looking for then & had to settle with the 1st coin; I am glad he came up with his superior design
I was wrong when I bought an “Unopened 2009 UHR double eagle” on eBay. I was just getting back to collecting and was hoping to win at the 69/70 lottery. I got my coin, sent it in to our hosts, and got back a coin in an MS65 holder. I kinda, sorta don’t think it was really a mint sealed, original box.......
That was my introduction to grading, this forum, eBay shennanigans, and buying what I really wanted the first time. The thing I bought had nasty hairlines.
Did you buy it from coin dealers? I paid premium for PCGS MS70

I am underwater on each of the few coins which were nice for the grade for which I paid more than a 1/3 premium. One got upgraded to a + holder, which has a minimal effect on the grade. Perhaps someone else can get them upgraded. I can't.

I have not sold/traded coins, so do not have regrets of that nature. I have purchased a few for more money than they are/were worth... However, I wanted them - ergo, no regrets there. I am not someone who focuses on negatives...I either fix it or move on and forget it. Cheers, RickO

Let go a raw 1911 D that wound up in PCGS MS62, before they jumped a bunch.
Also a 1909 O Barber in a rattler 64 that, in the end, jumped two grades.
1911-D what?

This 2015 PCGS Panda MS70 and now has spots on it. Ugg
I've had that happen a few times. Now I wait for a coin to be at least a solid year in the holder before I purchase. It seems to helps avoid the spotting issue.
More than I care to recall, but here is a recent one: I “cherrypicked” a cool error coin, unattributed in a lot on eBay, with the intention of reselling it. One other bidder saw it and I seriously overestimated the secondary market, so my “cherry” wound up costing me full retail.

If your now in your 70's, this could actually pay off. If your around 45, not so much.
A tad bit under the latter lol...so yeah, worthless. Triple game worn Mickey Mantle refractor hologram reprints just didnt hold up. $12 packs - 5 cards in a pack...12th year Kirby Puckett and Vladamir Guerreo cards just dont have a following.
I did work in the building where Kayo boxing cards had an office so I got a boatload of worthless protoype cards for free including some unauthorized Mike Tyson rookies. I think those fetch $15

Selling a PCGS MS45 Charlotte half eagle years ago. Also sold a nice double dime. Got a fair price, but wish I had kept the coins.
There's a guy over on the PM forum who is never wrong.

PCGS was wrong for slabbing it.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
And we all are.
And this is why I don't buy ms70s. No such thing as a perfect coin.

Shoulda hung on to them both, but they did end up in good homes.

Bought Zincoln proofs but realized I'd have to live to be 175 before seeing them worth the investment.

Wow! 39,000 Posts! Congratulations.
Only wrong once in 39,000 times is an enviable record.
I let a friend convince me to buy a bunch of 2005 mint sets on speculation - I'm not even sure where the box is, but it's $1,500 I'll never see again.

I was wrong of buying silver eagle couple dollars over spot. But it was an addiction and I couldn't help it.
