The coloration around the edge would leave me to believe that this coin may have been encased in some type of jewelry. I'll let the Morgan crowd speak to it's authenticity.

It's time for the coin to take a trip to PCGS to find out for sure.

The coin has been cleaned in such a way that it won't get a straight grade.

I will admit I have no credentials to speak of regarding authenticity but I see what appears to be a few tiny beads among the denticles on the obverse near the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock area, in the lower portion of the "S", and on the reverse a few in the denticles in the 4 o'clock area and between the "u" and "s" and one near the tip of the left wing. From what I have attempted to learn from the many areas of this forum beads were a flag. I'm leaning towards not authentic. If its real, congrats and I have plenty more to learn!

Get that at bezels R us? Search this thread for 1893-S Morgan diagnostics because it was discussed here within the last few months IIRC.

That Morgan has all the indications of being a former belt buckle coin... there are many out there, I have one somewhere.....I doubt it will straight grade... Cheers, RickO

Judging from the 9 in the date, and the position of the "1" centered correctly, I think you got the real thing.

C'mon Morgan peeps, join in. I'm more of a Buffalo Guy.

From what I am seeing it looks legit.

Looks genuine to me. A cleaning seems to be more of a problem to my eyes then the rim bruises.

I think a “you suck” is in order.

I’m a Morgan guy and it passes the die tests as far as I can tell. Can’t be specific about the Mint mark or the rabbit ears or the T in Liberty but definitely worth a shot at grading. I think it is details coin, but still worth $2500+ if genuine.

Looks OK to me but quite dippish unless that is an overexposed photo. Still needs slabbing to get the best money for it.

    Kind regards,

The coin has the correct die markers for a genuine piece. Exceptional counterfeits are being struck at this time but I don't think one of this quality (if a fake) would have reached the place where you bought it. So, probably genuine and get it slabbed.
