Bay State Coin Show report

Didn't see anything written up on the Bay State coin show, so here's a brief report. I went on Friday afternoon. Seemed reasonably well-attended, not crowded but healthy. Overheard one dealer telling his colleague that Saturday would probably be a bust, so I guess as far as coin shows are concerned Saturday is the new Sunday.

There were no empty tables. Maybe 80-100 dealers. About a 50/50 mix of slabs and raw. A number of currency, foreign, and ancient dealers, more than I would have thought. I stayed away from the ancient coin tables as I wasn't prepared with that kind of dough on hand. Few bullion dealers, maybe 2 or 3. I did talk for a while with a dealer with some amazing error coins, including a double struck Barber Dime and an off-center Seated Dime. I might be persuaded to swing in that direction at some point.

It's hard for me to know how business was for the dealers but for what it's worth I didn't see any big money changing hands. From my perspective though, an overall quality show and I would recommend going if you have the chance.

A few interesting anecdotes:

One dealer said he sold $600 worth of stuff out of his junk box to one customer. I'm not sure what to make of that.

I saw a young boy, maybe 10 to 11, taking silver Roosevelt dimes out of a Whitman folder one by one to sell. There could be lots of stories behind that but I found it a bit sad.

I overheard (actually I think many people overheard) one zealous young customer telling a dealer she was looking for paper money that might have been on the Titanic. I haven't yet decided if that is brilliant or absurd.

I bought one coin, which is about average for me at a show as my interests are very specific. This is one of few coins I liked better after I brought it home.

We had an amazing show both buying and selling.
Rarely have we done such a wide assortment at any one show.

I just started coin collecting back up less than a year ago. I'm working on a graded type set and only have about 8 coins so far so for me most shows are good as I have a lot to look at and many holes to fill. I've been going on a steady bases to 2-3 coin shows per month in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and even a couple in Pennsylvania when we are visiting there for a long weekend. I must say that I found this show to be the best so far. I made two purchases outright and a third is on a payment plan. There was a lot of different stuff to look at from raw coins to graded coins and raw paper money to graded paper money. There was also much more ancient coins to see and quite a bit more old gold than I'm used to seeing at the other local shows.

I would highly recommend this show to anyone that is within a few hours driving distance. Donato

Ricko I don’t consider myself a metal dealer but I had several show specials and sold everything I had including bags of 90%. Silver rounds and some cute art bars

The dime is graded. An older PCGS holder without the prongs. I cropped the holder out of the photo.

I really couldn't say, I didn't hang around the few bullion dealer tables.

Wasn't meant to be a GTG. It's in a PCGS AU55 holder. Slight optimistic in my opinion, but it's real pretty I think.
