Way too much background and not enough coin.
I can see the top of the "S" on the enlargement.

The 1867-P is tougher than the 1867-S.
When I first looked at this coin I thought that it may be the 1867-P.
Later I took a closer look at the metal surrounding the hole on the reverse of the coin. I was able to see a portion of the top of the S mint mark. I was hoping that the coin was minted in Philly . No such luck.
Holey half dime SanctionII.... Are you collecting holed coins now? Or was it just the possibility of it being a P coin?? Cheers, RickO
This coin was a gift from a client after a real estate litigation case I handled for her was completed. It sits in a 7070 Album. When I received it I looked into the series and initially thought it might be a Philly mint coin. No such luck.
With that background I amost thought it was a cut-out coin! Optically speaking.
1867-OH!
The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Used as jewelry. Too bad, but common. I have a California gold quarter bg222 that has a tiny hole in it. Other than that it is in great shape, which is like saying other than that how was the play Mrs. Lincoln.
If you toss proofs into the mix, the 1867-s just might be scarcer. In gem condition it's no contest....1867-s.
