My mystery Morgan is back from grading! 1885 S or 1895 S?

(Sorry for the bad slab pictures, I tried so hard but kept getting a reflection from the plastic, lighting is somewhat orange as well ugh) I was hoping to grab that Po01 grade but I couldn't be any happier since it turned out to be an 1895 S! Picked this up at a pawn shop and had it graded. Nice piece for my collection! Also my lowest minted coin find. Too bad on the grade. I'm sure a PO01 is worth more.
How could they tell that? Is there die markers?

Honestly if anyone has any ideas on how they did so I would love to know!
If the top third of the digit shows, which seems to be the case, it's easy to tell an 8 from a 9. The 8 has much more drastic curvature, especially on the right side. Another possibility that I can't discern from the pictures is that you have one of the really dramatic S/S varieties, VAM 3 or 4.

How can you tell the die markers when the coin is so worn off like this one? Pardon my question; it is part of my learning curve
