A little over a year ago I posted this thread https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/976161/after-more-than-10-years-of-searching-i-finally-found-a-neat-variety-trueviews-added-last-post about finding a 1968-S Inverted S Kennedy Half-Dollar after almost a 10 year search through countless Proof Sets. Well, as fate would have it I found another coin from 1968 that I have been searching almost as long for --- Proof 1968-S/S FS-038 Jefferson Nickel. I think my eyes almost popped outa my head when I saw it. Now I need to keep searching and maybe, just maybe I'll find a Proof 1968 No "S" Dime!!! :)

I have some free time tonight and will try to get it free of the set and post some pictures. To all you searchers, never give up, the coins are still out there.

Al H.

it may not be the best picture, a little out of focus, but the top serif is clear and the bottom curve is also clear to the right of the top S. there is an artifact(probably a reflection) which appears as a line towards the date that isn't there. overall the coin should grade PR67 and when I have it graded/TrueViewed I will ask Phil to add a close-up of the MM.

In my experience, coins tend to come to me in runs. Sometimes this challenges the coin budget, but the time to buy (or find) something is the present.

    Great snag Al!

I "found" a 68 no S dime at a country coin auction. Well, I didn't really find it. The guy next to me did. If the kind moron had kept his mouth shut, he probably could have bought it for $5 as it was not listed as a no S and it was in a run of common date proof sets that no one was really looking that carefully through. But he couldn't not brag about it. Of course, the auctioneer heard and when he sold it, mentioned it as a no S dime. I still managed to buy it for $1000 which was a nice score. But I've always thought if the guy had just kept quiet, he would have had a major score.

Never brag until the hammer comes down...and even then, just shut up and count your money.

I am still looking for the inverted S Kennedy as well.... no luck so far... I do, however, have a set of Kennedy's stored in some boxes that I have not unpacked since I relocated ten years ago..... Well, it could be... :D I have not had a major 'EUREKA!!' in a long time.... ;) Cheers, RickO

That is a tuff one Keets! Your post last year inspired me to look at 68 sets. Among the first ten I looked at I found a DDR dime FS-801 that graded 69!

coming outta the SMS years there sure is a lot of Variety in a 1968 Proof Set. the three big ones, the Nickel, Dime and Half-Dollar are all MM related. strange, they didn't use the punches for three years and then, WHAM!!!
