The Capitol Visitor Center's sold for $2400, 6 or seven years ago. I bought this at Heritage for a bit under melt on Tuesday.

That is interesting. It is "only" an MS-69, and it is in the "wrong holder."
Still it shows that the there is nothing firm about the prices of modern coins like this with high survival rates. When they get older and the luster wears off, down they come.
Even tulips can be ugly....

I've been saying kadish for modern gold commems for quite some time.
But, as long as there are punters willing to put up the readies, the mint will continue to pop them out.

Robinsons still hold some premium at $850. Peak was $4500 or so 7 or 8 years ago.
I enjoy watching the feeding frenzy on coins such as these....Most retreat in price within a year or so.... some - such as the Jackie Robinson - hold value for longer periods. Even those coins suffer price erosion over time. If one can avoid the emotional rush, one can save a lot of 'coin'..
My gold Haida coin is one that has not experienced this phenomena... I like that since it is a beautiful coin and valuable. Cheers, RickO
How is the First Spouse gold doing these days? When the series started I started a Proof set for my wife and a BU set for myself, but when she died suddenly in 2010 I lost interest and sold them off.

I've been able to get a few pcgs graded ones at melt or a little above. there are a lot of them out there. I Do like the 1984 $10 Olympic the U.S. Marsharls and the Bald Eagle. They kinda grow on ya

They'll go back up in value after more than a few of them hit the melting pot. The 1984 $10 Olympic and the 1987 $5 for the Constitution come to mind - in about another 50 years there won't be many of them left. If you can hold out that long.
If you buy the generic spouses at Apmex on Ebay, the premium is 8.1%.
If you buy them directly from Apmex's website, the premium is 3.7%.

Because so many people chase keys, I wonder what will happen to the series now that the boys town coin has a mintage well under 3000. If that means when sales of coins hit the 3000 mark that people lose interest, we could end up with the next round of gold commemorative coins with mintages under 4,000.
