That's from the little known PCGS do it yourself kit.
My Ebay Store
I'm guessing sample slab, or mechanical error.

These are put into selective boxes every so often to make sure the QC guys are not sleeping on the job. NOT!
Maybe someone cracked it and was going to make there own insert?
HAPPY COLLECTING
Seems there are just too many of them from a single generation to be a mechanical error.
How many have you seen?
Practice slabs for new equipment operators?
(Of course, you could seal slabs WITHOUT coins, and get the same practice.....)
I was one of the underbidders on that series of listings. Earlier this year I bought one for $60, but never received it, lost at the Kansas City USPS sorting center.

Yep...looks like early sample slabs... Though I have seen many sample slabs, I have not seen one's with blank labels before. Cheers, RickO
no quality control there. just saying
Information is so overrated.
Those are the holders that force you to buy the coin
Collector, occasional seller
My guess is they are samples of some sort.

Several showed up about 2 years ago IIRC. Sold then for strong prices.

Interesting.
U.S. Type Set
Those are the built in guess the grade slabs made with invisible ink. Get it under a black light.
One more, someone got it...

I was bidding on those up to 40 each. Kinda neat but wouldn't have paid more than 30 (kinda got away with bids). I do hope, though, that whoever won them are happy with their purchases.
The market and interest in samples keeps going up. Good thing bad thing, depends if buying or selling.
Gives me hope for listing my 1964d sample in a 1964 slab.
Any with beans?
Clearly undergraded. Send it in for a bean.
Have seen 20-30 or so. Hard to know how many could be repeats since there aren't serial numbers.
Nothing written on the label in UV ink.
It's the one piece post rattler generation.

I'm with the majority here. Some kind of sample. Strange.
Since they are encapsulating common dates, and there are numerous examples, it seems to follow that they were purposefully manufactured.

Cross linking the threads: https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/997442/the-official-pcgs-blank-label-slab-census (since I can't keep them straight).
In David Schwager's book, this is ** PCGS-001-3-1** (page 307-308)
He indicates known as of publication (2016): 1959, 1959-D, 1960, 1960-D, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964-D, 1967, 1968-D, 1974
He valued these at $150 which turns out to be close to the recent sales.
David is aware of the most recent sales.

I'd say it's an "error slab"
Now if anyone bought one in 2014 and has the eBay auction # we can use listingshistory.com to look it up, figure out the keywords and search for the rest.

Maybe they paid that price hoping for an upgrade . . .
1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
