The Official What Did You Do with Coins Today? Thread

I took a photo shoot of a two-toned 1953-S Washington Quarter. It's my favorite coin. My father gave it to me with some others as a gift for finishing grad school. It's in a capsule and his handwriting on the inside of the paper flip. It needed new plastic as I feared a small tear would upset the toning.

The lamplight is yellow with ambient room light. I made some shots overexposed on purpose.

I'll be taking more with sunlight and full spectrum the next time we get sun. This coin is a nice lilac lustrous obverse and a bronze reverse. I love two-toned coins because of this piece.

It says it's an S/S, but I think just a damaged and dirty ugly S.

There sure is something going on with that mint mark.... not listed in the CPG .... could be die chips.... Maybe it is listed elsewhere... Cheers, RickO

Bought a bit of 90% junk at auction yesterday. Just got finished dipping them in tarnish remover to make nice blast white rolls.

I picked up a nice vintage Dansco Washington quarter folder. It is in great condition other than "Benje" written on corner of the front. I believe it was made in 1966.

    I spent a few......

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

Not sure about the mint mark but I really like the look of the reverse on the coin a lot.

Myself, I went to the monthly Atlanta show. Sold my 15% eBay Buck purchases from last month and sold a slew of clad proof sets.

Im doing some simple, fun sets like 20 shapes, 20 denominations, 20 compositions, just some fun for a cheap challenge.

This afternoon, I received an 1838 Seated quarter in PCGS XF40 in the mail, which had been purchased last week. It's original to the point that it's probably too dark for some peoples' tastes. Nonetheless, it's nearly mark-free and has solid XF40 details. Tomorrow's agenda: look for more Seated quarters.

Yea I’ve started to with some of the coins that are slower turnovers - lets me list more on the basic store dime.

Oh cool! Pics? I love the darker coins.

I'll sometimes 30-day slow inventory just to make people sort through all of my inventory. I change their pictures weekly.

I figured it was time to take these out of a small plastic case jingling and jangling them around. It's been long enough now that it's not terribly painful to think of losing them.

Selling a small accumulation for a widow - spent a couple hours this AM separating the wheat from the chaff and scheduling a few auctions on ebay to begin on Sunday PM.

This was the most interesting piece in the box.

Great to have something hand written by your Dad. Now that you have handled the coin without cloth gloves on, I would suggest you soak in acetone to remove any skin oil you might have left behind.

    thanks for the share.

@Kkathyl - none of the surfaces were touched.. I've got thick callouses and long nails. This is the last coin I want prints on haha. I should be fine on just the rim right? I don't have soft fleshy fingertips.

Wouldn't acetone wash away the bronze and lilac anyway?

Edit: @Lakesammman - Thank you for bringing some gold to this thread! I hope you treated that young lady kindly. :) That's some gorgeous color.. nice old gold.

Edit2: lol @Kkathyl you got me haha. They put me on a lot of painkillers for my injuries so I'm all out of sorts.

Today I returned the Redfields and the 2 cent pieces I had in my display over the week end back to the bank. I did pick up a few coins to look at for a while before I swap them back also.
