Are LOL meant to be a good LOL or an insult? Do you prefer the LOL better than Disagree ?

I just received a PM from a member claiming the LOL intended to be a good mark was indeed insulting to him / her. I promptly removed it and apologized. I though LOL is something good you share with the poster....a light part of the equation I should say but perhaps not for some. Please let me know what you think.

Some people are WAY too thin-skinned and their hair catches fire quite easily.
Kind regards,

Laughing out loud. Its all good, tell them to PS.:)
I wondered if @Connecticoin @DIMEMAN and @Grid also received the same unpleasant PM from this poster???
As long as the LOL is not directed at the size of my private part, anything else is okay.
LOL's can go both ways. I think it's pretty easy to tell if someone is laughing at you because you are being funny or if they think you are stupid!
LOL is a good thing. People post things that they mean to be funny, The problem that may sometime arise is when a poster is serious in commenting, but gets an LOL for it.
At least that's my take on it.

The LOL originated on a BBS in early 80's. I view it as it was created- Laugh Out Loud. Kinda ironic person thought it was viewed as insulting on a modern day BBS!! Like @giorgio11 says, some people are way too thin skinned!
Keep on using it and Laugh Out Loud at it!
LOL means you were amused, I see it as good. Laughing with not at._
It's not polite to laugh at other people's shortcomings.
Kind regards,
George
Yap very amusing......the pm'er asked me to stay away from his post ever.....OK OK OK take it easy I told him......
Too bad and earlier it was all about the LOVE.
WOW. There is an Ignore feature (I've never used it) that might be applicable here.
Pete
I intend it to mean I found something to be amusing.
There are some clever posters on here, and some of the .gifs they dig up
are freakin' hilarious (I hope I can say that....)
LOL is for statements that make me laugh.
I also use LOL for the few posters who show their ignorance of facts, science, common sense, statistics, and basic math.
Yep. I see your point. When you use it in that sense, it would probably be appropriate.
But..........you have to hope that everyone who sees it understands how it was intended.

Some here have no sense of humor.
They do not understand irony, parody, or satire.
The best is when they see your sarcasm as a true statement
Not trying to be off topic here, but I am a board certified gold alchemist, and I produce and sell gold by the pound on a website by that name.
I've got a volume discount deal going right now for 50 pounds or more of gold at 10% off the regular price.
This thread makes me... LOL
Sometimes it means they're laughing with you and other times it means they are laughing at you but, either way, it's all good as far as I'm concerned.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Regardless if they're laughing at me or with me, I'll still take the LOLs for badges.
If somebody laughed or found something funny then it made the world all that brighter.
If they're doing it to bully others they're probably bad people. But nobody is 100% a dick, so ehhh.
I'm guilty of using LOL when someone in BST advertises an original problem-free coin and show a poorly twice-dipped coin that was dragged 100 meters on asphalt and artificially toned.
LOL Laughing Out Loud. When Jerry Lewis made you laugh were you mad?
I think it all depends on context. If someone is stating fact, or what they believe to be fact, they may be insulted by a LOL. If someone's making a joke then the LOL would be positive.
Just looks at my LOLs, pretty much all of them are jokes that I made.
Interestingly, something else I said got 5 agrees and no LOLs even though I intended it to be a joke. I put the winky face and everything.

The demise of the English language is not a good thing. The denigration of "texting in full sentences" "by your parents" on that commercial is telling.
When I hit the LOL button...it’s because I laughed out loud...whether or not anyone else finds it funny isn’t of my concern...still waiting for somebody...anybody to PM me about their emotions from a button I pressed on the Internet...my response would be rather short I assume
Three letters long, I hope.
Hit me with an LOL, and I will not whine.
And an LOL to you too.
I believe that the LOL is a good thing
Unless we are talking about death, that is.

Yes there are some very thin skinned folks here. Just like real life!
Boy you can say that again LOL
Yes..Lola was her name.Lol
Nothing's private in a public forum.
Especially when Jerry was part of that famous comedy team Lewis and Hardy, and when they performed that famous baseball comedy routine "Who's on First"...oh was that funny.

Nope, guess it is all in the tone of your typing.
Really? Well all I have to say is LOL to that person!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I would say 95% of the time LOL is a good thing to give/receive. If someone posts something that is meant to be serious and is super stupid/wrong, that might deserve one of the 5% LOL's.
Whiners gonna whine.

Its a good thing when someone uses humor. Its also a good thing when a troll keeps trolling even after they've been outed as a troll.

I suspect in most cases it is better to get a L.O.L than a S(h*t.)O.L.
Maybe PCGS will read this thread and decide to add subcategories/choices to LOL, like they currently have for "Flag" - the obvious subcategories are 'LOL - That's Funny!', 'LOL - You're an Idiot!', and LOL - 'That's Funny, but You're Still an Idiot!'
Or lol that's sick but I love it. I have a dark sense of humor sometimes as I'd rather laugh than cry.

Insult. Everytime. No exceptions. Ever.
Something has to really make me laugh to get it.
@mvs7 that idea made me literally laugh out loud. I'd never use the latter two but the suggestion earned one
ROFLMAO?
Idea of the Week!

Must be a snowflake....they SEARCH for things to be offended by.....It means that the reader found the post funny....any other interpretation is LOL.....Cheers, RickO
Yea...might as well also ask them to bring back the Open Forum, if anyone remembers that.
Intentions are hard to judge and if you act according to a good conscience you shouldn't worry or be affected by other's responses. "To thine own self be true".
