After further review why not just keep the coin and therefore keep your ebay bucks since they seem so important to you? After all this fretting isn't even about the coin , we're just talking bout a silly little sticker. Did they not offer to swap the one they sent for one with the sticker? Maybe they can refund you the $14 and you could send in for the sticker yourself?
'dude - apparently you don't understand the value of a gold sticker and why he paid a premium. Go look at auction records and see why. Also, anyone knows that a high end coin that is listed on ebay, as clearly in this case (see the listing), is a unique item and no swap to another coin is ethical or acceptable............
I collect coins not some dumb sticker. and if you read my initial post in this thread I agreed that the Big A screwed up and should have sent the buyer what he reasonably thought he was buying. Then all the whining stated about losing ebay bucks and $10K this and that like it was the end of the world. Jesus all over a stupid little sticker. Apmex has offered a full refund, what's the problemo?
'dude, I don't collect stickers either, but I realize the green and gold CAC stickers on holders, and especially PCGS holders, are what is driving the US coin market and they have more value than those that don't have these stickers or are in other TPG slabs. This is a fact and there are reasons for this. It also means that it is probably a really good coin for the grade, or, even with the gold bean, better than the stated grade on the slab.
So while it may seem stupid to some, it does matter because the value is different and so is very likely the quality of the coin (in most cases). Hence, APMEX pulled a fast one on ACop and sent him a coin of far lesser value than the one he was buying from that specific listing. THAT IS THE PROBLEM.
So here we go - here are 2 of my 34 bust quarters, both P40, one CAC, one not. Ignoring rarity, which one would you choose? How would you like it if I listed in the BST the CAC one, then sent you the other? Would you be miffed? Same thing for ACop here. The switch to another coin not only removed value but according to him, the quality is not comparable.

Actually, I agree with you. Apmex does this too often to call it an isolated mistake. However, since Apmex will promptly and immediately accept returns and pay you back when it happens, it's rather hard to call it some kind of scam. So Apmex screwed up, but they are willing to make the OP "whole". The OP is within rights to NEG Apmex. But the complaining about the eBay bucks has been way over the top. [In my opinion.]

It apparently happens again and again with Apmex. Since inventory in these modern times is easy to keep track of, this has to be intentional and thus part of their buisness model. Just sayin'. So I am not sure Apmex can make the OP whole given the situation, unless they send him the coin that he purchased based on the listing.

It is up to you, but you might want to consider amending the title of this thread to reflect the positive outcome. Also, it is important for all who trashed APMEX for this incident (myself included) to consider amending their opinion of APMEX as appropriate.

You are assuming a couple of things that we don't really know:
1. APMEX uses a modern inventory system - probably but not necessarily. They still seem to use labeled baggies based on coins I got from them.
2. The problem is an inventory problem and not a listing problem. eBay has unhelpfully duplicated listings for me in the past because of a software glitch which continues to persist, by the way. It is also possible for a minimum wage staffer with no numismatic knowledge to clone a listing without recognizing the difference.
The robots have not yet taken over.
I have no issues with Apmex. Their operation appears to me to sometimes be sloppy. But they always stand behind their sales and so, while frustrating, I can live with the occasional error. I don't expect perfection - I'm not capable of it myself. But, like myself, I expect people to correct mistakes when they happen. Apmex appears, at least to me, to do that.
[Of course, I'm not sure why they make as many mistakes as they do. There is some presumably correctable problem there. Then again, why does eBay randomly duplicate my listings, month after month. And, frankly, why does the software for this message board continue to randomly eat comments?]
It is up to you, but you might want to consider amending the title of this thread to reflect the positive outcome. Also, it is important for all who trashed APMEX for this incident (myself included) to consider amending their opinion of APMEX as appropriate.
Sadly, this thread is not the basis of my opinion. It's just an additional data point.
However, I am impressed they are looking at the big picture. Taking the eBay bucks issue into consideration (going 'negative' is a real problem at the close of the quarter) is the right thing to do and is enough that I will keep my ears open on the off chance positive actions are the new trend.
I have had this problem going on for a year now. While it is better it still happens now and then. They have had me using incognito browsing to list. Had to have a Neg removed because of it! I've had listings when it was bad list 6 times at once with a single click!
I was referred to their 3rd party diagnostic team...
then this!.......Have they blamed it on your internet provider yet???? Just happened last week to me on the hotel's internet I was staying at, has happened on my iphone as a hotspot also, as well as of course my home internet!
Hopefully this works out for you. With bullion buying and selling I have found them top notch. Not with numismatics though. They need to stop stock photos on unique numismatic items; I don't know anyone else who pulls that.

No resolution here either. Been going on for at least a year with me. When they started phasing out Turbolister, I started using their web-based listing and that's when I discovered the glitch. It NEVER used to happen with Turbolister. I'm not sure why they can't find/fix the problem. Fortunately, so far it has been inexpensive stuff and the buyers where understanding.

At least you are getting it resolved with them.
When it happened to me, on my primary account, a few years ago, I wasn't a frequent buyer and I didn't know what the ramifications, regarding ebucks, would be. So, that account, regarding ebucks, is hosed for a LONG time. I didn't push it with apmex back then because, as I just mentioned, I didn't know the ramifications.
So, good for you, and good for them, in working towards a solution that way.
In my mind, one way would be for them to take the return, outside the ebay system, and eat the fees (since it was a HUGE SNAD issue on yours). That way, you keep the ebucks.
You guys are the bullys, trying to make someone feel bad into accepting getting ripped off...for who knows what reason. Maybe you own some APMEX stocks and this was to be your big score to drive the stock price up with inflated profits?? Maybe the SEC should get a call about you people.

Getting ripped off is being shipped a different coin, then being threatened for trying to return it, like what happened to me (by a different seller). Being offered a full refund is not being ripped off. They went above and beyond for you, and I would imagine also added you to a certain list when it was all over.

ebucks are part of the ebay ecosystem. And I would be willing to bet no other seller comes close to benefitting from the ebucks program more than APMEX. So when their actions affect their buyer's ebucks profits, they should realize they are damaging a program they benefit from more than anyone else. I realize $100 or even $500 ebucks is a$$wiping money for some that have posted here. But ask yourself what percentage of the world can afford to throw away money on coins or buillions like that.
I celebrated my resolution with APMEX buy purchasing a $10k coin. So think of all the positivity that came from the world being righted. You can probably guess the coin from my post activity.

I apologize to all....this should probably be a new thread!
No, not at all. I apparently am the most optimistic person on this board.
I get 1500 free listings per month. There would be zero point in them occasionally duplicating one of those listings so that they would have a dissatisfied customer with only 1499 or 1498 free listings.

The poland coin I am hoping turns out to be what it is was listed to be. It would be a very rare pick up. But I think now theres a 1% chance it is what it was listed as. If in fact it isnt, how do you go about getting the refund and no ship back? I dont necessarily want to keep the coin for free if its not what they say it is, but I wouldnt want my refund to be tied to a shipping back to Poland a month later.
LOL! They are not free! You pay for them with your store subscription. They killed me when they changed the store formats. I would have over 4000 listings if they hadn't created their megastore and did away with the store I had. I'm not willing to pay $250 per month and can not use 10,000+ listings per month! I also don't need their special dedicated CS line! So now I cycle my listings every month or 2 and it is important to me if they milk me out of my listings!

I agree, they aren't exactly "Free" but there is also no incremental income driver to eBay for "accidentally" cutting me down to 1499 or 1498. I think it's an honest glitch in the sytem. I can't for the life of me, however, figure out how complex a glitch it could be that no one in their tech heavy company has been able to find it and fix it in a year!
Copyin this from another post I made in another thread as it ties into this event
On the flip side, and maybe i'll add this to my thread as well. I once bought a 1921 P$ from them not yet knowing they used stock images for bulk grade coins. I bought it because the picture was one of the proof die VAMS. I was warned I would not get the coin pictured from some forum members. I called APMEX and they confirmed the image was stock and that I would not get the coin pictured. And then I actually did get the coin in the picture. That also contributed to the purchase in my thread. I had gained some confidence in them. That had been my most previous coin purchase from them prior.
My 1st gripe is ebay told me it is not happening to anyone else! Perhaps you have been luckier than I. It happens most to me when I relist the seashells I am selling auction style. It's a very limited market and I list them once every 3 months. At it's worst it has created 20+ duplicate listings out of 50! That is substantial. It was so bad for me ebay credited me my store fees for 2 months....which was probably close to what I had to pay in additional listing fees. I joked with the ebay lady when she was looking at the shell that listed 6 times within a second! I said I wish I could list that fast!

Not exactly eBay fees. There's a software glitch on eBay that randomly (as far as I can tell) duplicates listings. It has happened to myself and @amwldcoin dozens of times in the last year+ and somehow eBay has not managed to fix it.
@amwldcoin I also have a friend locally who sells comic books and it happens to him also.

I have been neutral in this thread, but A friend previously posted that APMEX's listings are actually generic and the coin imaged is not the coin you will "win", but similar quality.
I sent them a note about their listed PCGS 1804 S-266a (a desirable die state) to verify if that is the coin I would receive: http://www.ebay.com/itm/112536663620?ul_noapp=true
Their response is quoted here:
"Thank you for contacting APMEX. We apologize for any confusion. The photographs in this listing illustrate the quality of the coin (s) you will receive, not the exact item. However, the purchase would match the quality of the product shown in the listing.
Unfortunately, we are unable to share the actual photos/cert/serial number or Slab Styles of the item listings prior shipping. The actual inventory of the item are selected upon packaging . We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

I know. It started as a comment about how sometimes things happen due to things beyond control. Y'know, the whole mistakes vs. nefarious duplicitous corporation. So, it started on topic and kind of wandered when the two of us realized we'd both had the same inventory issue with eBay.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I wanted to get what I paid for. What a bully.
You paid for a $600 coin, last I saw you were claiming a $10K financial loss. lol
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
Sometimes jokes are so obvious, they dont need to be explained, except to a very "special" few.
And it was $100,000 which was supposed to narrow it down even more than 10k would have.
No argument here, you certainly are "special" lol Apmex should give you free coins for life

That's exactly what they offered to make this right. (<---that is another joke)
Is there a sub thread going on here about ebay fees?
Not exactly eBay fees. There's a software glitch on eBay that randomly (as far as I can tell) duplicates listings. It has happened to myself and @amwldcoin dozens of times in the last year+ and somehow eBay has not managed to fix it.
@amwldcoin I also have a friend locally who sells comic books and it happens to him also.
Milking one of the Big Boys for free stuff under the threat of exposing half truths. I suppose that is now becoming the American way.
Yeah, but this thread is about APMEX?
The story goes more like "The Big Boys dont care about the little guys and send out whatever they want instead of what was bought, creating monetary problems that would have been avoided had they just done the right thing in the first place"

Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
APMEX Bullion Center on eBay Customer Service".
This is obviously a problem for an early copper variety collector...
Yes.
Threads do wander sometimes don't they.
I know. It started as a comment about how sometimes things happen due to things beyond control. Y'know, the whole mistakes vs. nefarious duplicitous corporation. So, it started on topic and kind of wandered when the two of us realized we'd both had the same inventory issue with eBay.
Therein lies the problem - specific coin, unique quality, there is no such thing of equal quality with unique coins...... How hard is it to list the specific coin for sale? The rest of the world seems capable of doing it......
Best, SH
