Nor do I like the retro 30th Anniversary OGH’s which obviously aren’t old. I’ll view a coin and think sweet OGH only to be disappointed by the novelty grab.

Pet peeve - scratched holders. I wanted to oogle a 1792 half disme at lot viewing once. The big dude with the “precious box” brought it over. I’m sure the coin was in there but it was worthless trying to see it. I’m not sure what they hoped to accomplish with having it at lot viewing. I could read the label just fine. I guess that’s the important thing......

With all the label options available now, there are plenty to like or not like. The point around here, though, always seems to be look at the coin.... not the label, not the holder.

I really dislike the edge view gasket. PCGS coins show better with the old style. It should be an option for edge-lettered coins.

I do not like that I am forced to have a trueview on every coin when choosing express or higher. They are not always how I would present my own coin.

My experience with them was in 1992 while at Ft Dix, NJ for Ground Combat Training. Every morning in the chow hall. And to make matters worse, my last name is Sam, so the server sang "green eggs and ham for Sam I Am" every morning.

To relate to coins, one of my world coins sent raw to great collections came back ungraded for PVC, so I guess I do not like green spots on coins...

My thoughts......

I don't care for the retro label, as it sort of cheapens the brand.

But, I find them acceptable only because they are easily identifiable, so a TRUE OGH is still a true OGH.

Yes, I do own just one of the retro holders but that was not by design. I bought it only because I liked and needed the coin that it housed.

Well put - that's what I was thinking too.

What is it about those OGH's that makes them so desirable when you see them? Thinking maybe it's a fresh to the market coin from an older collection, that's strong for the grade, or perhaps even an upgrade candidate? Not a maxed out retread? Knowing it won't 'turn' after all these years in that holder? Any and all of the above, I guess, but they certainly draw my attention when I see them in a display case.

I agree with you MJ. I also personally didn't like it when our gracious host decided to allow us to submit an OGH for an upgrade and if it didn't, you get to keep the OGH.
One of the perceived positives for OGHs(that they had never been resubmitted) went poof. It's PCGS's brand and I am sure they gave it a lot of thought, but I thought it was a mistake.

This happens most often in transit, and is usually easily rotated back to upright by tapping the slab on a hard surface on one corner or other (it may rotate in different directions depending on which corner you tap).

Note if you do this at a show, every other dealer will make a snide remark like "Hey, are you trying to crack out that coin?" which is actually my pet peeve for this thread.

I do not care what type of slab it is.... I have many types, could not tell you how many of each type and do not intend to categorize them. I just care about the coin inside...I actually am attracted to the coin and usually will look at the coin first and later notice the label...So, green, white, doily, new or old... does not matter, show me the coin.... Thanks John. I used to do that with rattlers all the time back in the day, but hadn't really tried that technique with the new prong gaskets. Still a pet peeve that I have to do it ;-).

I travel often and at one particular Marriott property, with my status, I was often upgraded to the 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite. It didn't have the nice work desk that the room I booked had, and I learned to hate it. Free upgrades are not always better. Where the free trueviews hurt sometimes, is when you go to sell the coin. There are times when the coin in hand does not look like those images, either better or worse, and I didn't ask for the image. (Not to mention a buyer can download a 35 MB image and zoom in to every little nick and whack on the coin.)

Pet Peeve:

Seeing a coin in a 2X2 stapled holder and

1) have a GTG topic for it.

2) having two posters argue whether it is a 61 or a 62.

3) You can't see anything thru those holders. Much less tell the difference from a 61 to a 62, or what ever, or even if it is cleaned.

4) oh, yeah, and poor spelling.
