Contemporary Counterfeit...or not?

Modern, unfortunately. Unless it's a new discovery.

It's not in Davignon's book.
Wouldn't it be something if the Chinese started making counterfeit contemporary counterfeits?
Lance.WAIT...looks like an O.102.

I think these aren't in the book...look at the 6th one down in the 1832's
http://www.cccbhcc.com/new-discoveries.html#1832 20UAt first I was debating as to whether it was just a weird looking genuine coin..

Lance....and what do you base this on? There may be a good reason it is not in that book! It looks like a circulated genuine coin. O-113. What do you think?

Not O.113. The 5 in the denomination doesn't line up with the arrow feathers.

Genuine is possible, I can't believe that I'm saying this, but I can't tell. But it's def. not an O-113.

Guess what WE have discovered?
In the Overton book 1832 O-102 with Rev B and 1832 O-113 with Rev J show the identical reverse die from what I see. The obverse looks similar too . Different die states for identical coins? HELP
Calling all Capped Bust Half dollar experts! What do you think.
On O-102 Obverse, the 8 is slightly recut and the 8th star "looks" slightly closer to the cap.

No the O-102 and O-113 have different reverses. I think you're thinking that because of the arrowheads.

Show me the PUP please. The arrows and "tine" from the wing, etc look identical to me.

I did. it is washed out on O-113. I'll check the net.

I'm still confused. The PCGS coin image of O-113 does not show the crude arrows. I'll look again.
IMO, the 4th edition of Overton has the incorrect reverse image on pp#603. Reverse B is shown as reverse J.
Is this correct? Need to make a note in my book.

Here is an overlay of the OP coin and a graded, attributed O.102.
I can make it prettier but this does the job.
Lance.

They're not identical. They are different reverse dies, which is why they have different names. I already pointed out one obvious difference. The O.113 reverse die never remarried (though the obverse went on to coin the O.114).
The reverse die for the O.102 was later used on the O.101 and not again.

I'll stick my nose in this discussion. Why I don't know!
Here is O-102

Here is O-113

For O-102 the A2 is higher than the adjacent base of M.
and the flag of the five is only half under the arr. feathers
and the zero leans a bit left. There is a prong extending
down from the tip of the right wing. For O-113 the A2 is slightly lower than the base of M.
and the flag of the five is all under the arr. feathers.
The prong extending down from the tip of the right wing
is shorter than O-102.Notice the shape & size of the berries,,,O-102 are smaller & thin,
O-113 are large & plump.
O-102 Miss Liberty is stern & hard to get along with.
O-113 Miss Liberty is happy & playing the piccolo.
Now I've probably confussed every body !2 -
