Has Plus Grading + caused you to submit your ( old green holders ) ?

I have only submitted my late date Lincolns and inexpensive coins in this series.
However I am not happy that I am almost forced to send in coins like a 1909 VDB for an upgrade
Using this example , a 1909 VDB in Ms 67 red is a $ 1,000 coin yet in Ms 67+ is a 3 - $ 4,000 coin.
Soon a 1909 VDB in Ms 67+will be a $ 2,000 coin. This is the truth, like it or not.
What do you think ?

I think it is only advisable to send in coins if you are considering selling.
If you are not selling, then leave them alone and send them to CAC.
This way you can keep your old holder.
This is what I was going to chime in with. Agree.

I have sent in extremely few older holdered coins with the hopes of gaining a plus or grading higher. The plan I follow is to generally keep them in their older holders and sell them for what I believe they are worth. Of course, not everyone embraces that plan, either.

I'm not a fan of plus grading. For me it either is or isn't.

I have found that it is hard to sell a coin for money that is higher than the label says. Even to a dealer who admits that it is a higher grade coin than what is on the label.
I suppose if I were in the business, I would do that....but being a collector, it just does not interest me. Cheers, RickO
No because if it's a really nice coin that's worthy of an upgrade I have no issues selling it for + money in the old holder without needing to be regraded or even stickered.
I just saw a super maxed out group of Lincoln someone is selling. The sad thing, most collectors will fall hook line and sinker because of a pedigree. The worst offenders, were the coins with the +.
One coin in particular I wanted really bad, was a +-with a finger print!!! Ugh! Maybe I am misinterpreting Lincolns?
To me, a + should be a 66.8 or better and should have the look of the next grade up. What am I missing or am I just blind?
65+ and up should have zero fingerprints and carbon spots.
Many of the old holders still left are nothing special or even over-graded. You can walk a show and see nothing but garbage in those same holders. I won't buy a DMPL Morgan, in an old holder, with a gun to my head. In fact, I have been especially skipping the OGH's lately and paying special attention to the coins graded in the last year.
For the little amount of money to have your coin reside in the grade it deserves, I am all for it. Send them in, get the plus, CAC back on, have a beer.
Educate yourself on what the market wants, carefully evaluate what you have and the actual risk/benefit ratio for each coin. Then, act accordingly. There is no hard-and-fast rule about what you “should” do. Broad generalities are often 100% wrong.
All of this assumes you’re selling soon. If not, it’s a pointless exercise (unless you’re a registry set gunner). The coins are what they are.
Collecting should be about the coin. All this worry over plastic slabs, different generation labels and sticker this and sticker that is nothing short of nonsense. We have a grading scale 64, 65, 66, 67, 68 etc. We don't need a + in between, just ANOTHER marketing gimmick to regrade your already graded coins again. Jesus why stop with the +? We could have ++, +++. MS67 A++++ etc. Unbelievable!

That's like buying the holder and not the coin.
I think A 67 with a cac gold sticker would be good also...So if 67 failed to upgrade to a plus grade, I would take a 67 CAC gold sticker as a consolation..
Too bad that PCGS doesn't have a way of designating a + without cracking the coin out.
No Way. Collectors that do that are just making it harder for me to add coins to my old green holder type set.

And your second point rings some truth. The market certainly didn't get bigger due to the plus (+) ADD-ON to grades. And after a few 67's graduate to 67+, the market is still basically the same, made up of the same people with the same budgets chasing after the same coins all for what? This is why it's important to know how to grade coins, catching the 67's before they become 67+s.

I can certainly see the value of an Old Green Holder where copper is concerned. It is a testament to the stability of the coin.
I have upgraded 2...maybe 3 58 Old Green Holders to 58+ in my collection. 58+ is my goal!
I've kept all my older holders and hope (maybe foolishly?) that I can find buyers who recognize quality when it comes time to sell.

I have seen a lot of "plus" grades that won't cac; there should be a rational basis for both which coincide according to their stated standards. Personally the plus grade doesn't excite me, cac however has a minimal investment in comparison.
I think any ogh may be a candidate for being cracked and sent in but my last couple submissions came back same grade.
However these were nice PQ coins which subsequently quickly sold at retail.
Not long ago I purchased an ogh CAC coin at bid plus 15 pct and recently sold it for bid plus 60 pct as I just price those deals cost plus.
It’s really how much money u want lay on table and gamble.
I'm a sucker for the older holders. If anything, I'd get the stickers.

I have done this too and if the coin is really nice it isn't that difficult to sell an MS66RD coin in an old older for MS66+RD money, even if that means double the price.
However, it is a bit painful when you later see that same coin in a new MS67RD holder at 10x the MS66RD price... ouch!!!
So while you can often convince a buyer to step up and give you the "plus money" on the old holdered coin, not likely you'll get the full upgrade money unless you resubmit yourself.

No. My OGH holders contain circulated coins. Apart from losing the green holder and shipping them to CAC a second time, the upside would not be worth the bother.
