It was a BIN, all it takes is one person who wants it bad enough.

I suppose not, but I was mostly referring to the variety.

What is the variety (Overton #)?

The detail/wear is more VF than XF, points for the toning? Perhaps a VF35+? I'd rather have the plus.

The price is in the color. Nothing less, nothing more

It is just me or does the toned coin on the left look just a little different then the slabbed coin? More rainbow coloring on the left then the slab. Maybe it's just the lighting because blemishes seem to line up but the toning seems different.

It looks like the coin is in the Coinfacts images. http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/CoinImages.aspx?s=6105

Personally I prefer more subtle toning, like this one in AU50 which would probably sell for a lot less.

IMO, the coin is weakly struck. While that was a VF in the old days it is easily a modern XF-43.8. Don't laugh, it's coming to a TPGS near you.

Not a coin that I would want.

Cleaned, retoned, I guess market acceptable.
    Nothing that great.

Actually, that Bust half is the O-106a, which happens to be an R4+ and a very tough die marriage to find...and definitely worth much more than the $1500 that the O-105 sold for.

Personally, I don’t care for the one that sold on eBay, too dipped out and only toned on one side. I happen to like the one that coin22lover is selling on the BST now. It has nice double sided toning and is a much better bargain.

At least half and maybe 2/3 of the money went for toning, not for me but to each their own. I like toning, but not enough to pay that for that.

Somebody really liked the dipped and album retoned look. Good for them if they are happy.

This is a GREAT coin. Is it for sale???????

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

I was just trying to find a really nice AU coin, it's on Coinfacts.

I've held off on this one.....But here goes. I've been collecting Capped Bust Halfs since the EARLY 1960's. I became captivated by them when I stumbled upon Grandpa's collection in 1963. I was a kid then. Never stopped. I love them. I've got the fever. That coin? No thanks.

Cleaned, retoned VF in the right plastic. Not my taste.

I don't like its look based on the Trueviews. But I've learned to be cautious. I'd like to see it in hand in case it looks more like these images.

I don't like it. It definitely looks dipped and then retoned. Surfaces look muted and it is too low grade for my liking, especially at that price level. Pass.

Insider2 nailed it. A modern XF- 43.8. And I'm not laughing.

Pass. Bad dip job and cookie-cutter toning on the obverse. Have seen at least 100 of them in various grades with that same even either rust or cobalt colored rim toning. Am sure the TPGS have seen 1,000s. At some point, someone decided they are "market acceptable." Not to me.

While the colors look nice, this is not a look I like on these old Busties. An XF-40 shouldn't be blast white - anywhere. It's hard to tell from the pics, but that coin also appears to have that glossy sheen which to me screams overdipped and possibly wiped. It takes away from the original crust (or skin) of the coin.

The coin @logger7 posted - I would take that one in a heartbeat over the XF coin and not just because of the grade.

And I'll just leave it at that.

Is it just me or has the wingspan of "market acceptable" spread from seagull to giant albatross?
