Heat sealing SaFlips.

Can someone suggest a good quality heat sealer for SaFlips?? A while back I purchased one off of eBay and it didn't work at all so I hesitate to go that route again. The cost isn't really that important although I don't need a big commercial sealer like I might get from Uline, just something that will seal flips, probably one in the 6-8 inch range.

I've got one of those, but I doubt if that model is still in production. I've had it for about 20 years and it does the job well.

Heat sealers are used with Saflips so coins don't fall out of them. It's common to do this when selling and shipping coins.
Twenty years ago, the etiquette was that if you, the buyer, removed a coin from an original stapled coin holder or from a sealed plastic coin holder, that act was your acceptance of the coin and the deal as 'final'. Of course, I am writing about a transaction conducted by mail, not in person.
Today, I would say that that rule is not as absolute as it used to be, although I personally would approach it in that manner.
Here is one of the ways I use the "Bag Sealer" pictured above. I usually seal anything important not in slabs or capsules.
Works really good for copper & silver. The coins below are Ireland (Eire) Euros First Year Issue 2002 sealed in 2003.

Different flips seal differently with impulse sealers. I don't use one, but I'd make sure any recommendations you follow up on actually work well with Saf-Lips.

The blue -colored heat sealer shown does a fine job sealing saflips. I heat-sealed a new zinc penny in a Saflip half on all four sides and weighted the sealed penny down in a glass of water for several days. Nary a drop of moisture penetrated the seal. Mine is a TISH-200.
Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.

One more questions .. can I use any plastic bags, like baseball card protectors ?
Back in the 1990's, the Ramapaugh Trading Co. Newfoundland NJ was an auction company of whole Jefferson nickel collections, would seal the winner's coins in saf-flips. This was a great way to to stick collectors with their coins if the seal was broken which was an indication, the coin had been removed from its holder. But sometimes, the seals on those saf-flips would break open on their own and lose their coins during shipping. I think I have a couple of coins left is those saf-flips.... somewhere.
It's also known saf-flips could scratch your coins if you didn't remove them in a certain manner.

I have used mine for similar 'off label' tasks and it does work pretty well. Of course, if you don't have one, getting one for Saflips would be a marginal decision.
I have also used this product with excellent results for many years. I actually bought mine from a coin supplies dealer....I'm pretty sure it was Brooklyn Gallery of coins and stamps...
